thanks sf_kilo for the answers on my build- I figured it was a regular bumper and 1 soft top, but I am puzzled at the side steps- why does mopar call the round side steps tubular and yet the factory steps are in fact called tubular too. I would have rather had the rounder ones- but it will be easier for my kids and dog to get in with the flatter ones so oh well.

For 3.21's its 2000. For 3.73's its 3500.
|08-25-2011 07:35 AM|
|Ang.||Just remember that some have stated with 3.21 you can't tow more than 1000 lbs.|
|08-25-2011 01:29 AM|
Oh and I test drove a 2011 with 3.21s today... What a pig! But for a DD it wasn't horrible. It got up and went when i hit the gas. So I think everyone will be happy with the new ones.

1.You are getting 1 soft top...
2.The painted bumper thing is a quirk, it was on my sport but its just the standard Rubbermaid grey... If you have a Sahara it has a painted silver insert in the middle just like the previous model years front and back...
3.The sidesteps are the standard Rubbermaid grey "flatter" type you see on every other jeep on the lot....

Ok lets make this easy at least for the JKU folks...
1. if the window sticker or build sheet does NOT show AHQ or 3.73 gearing YOU DON'T HAVE IT (build sheet will specifically list "3.73" if it is there)...
2. If you want 3.73 gearing make sure it shows up on the POC your dealer prints out when you order your jeep and put the down the deposit... It will list AHQ or 3.73 specifically... once again if neither are there you aren't getting 3.73 gearing...
3. if you are in "D" status or very early in the "D1" status YOU CAN CHANGE IT, I did and so have many others.... You must be very persistent with your dealer and preferably make them call in front of you, on the spot.
4.As far as the AHQ + AHT ($25) setup goes, that is the only way to 100% guarantee trailer sway dampening, no one has been able to prove 100% otherwise or show documentation that it is there.... Not even the Chrysler CSR I spoke with...
If the option to add AHT to the AHQ package has truly disappeared on a JKU then they may have finally figured out their system and included sway dampening... but where would they say it.... of course nowhere...
5. If you are unsure if your Jeep has 3.73's email Chrysler and get the build sheet (available once you have a VIN) or PM me with the VIN and if the vehicle is built and reached KZ status I can look it up in dealer connect for you and link it back in a pm....
(The one from Chrysler is in a better format though)
6. All autos have the tranny cooler on them regardless of tow package...
Oh... and enjoy your new Jeep
|08-24-2011 11:12 PM|
|Dogface||I would say that if you don't plan to tow or go off road you would want the 3.21 for the better milage. Actually I had heard that the 3.21 with the change in auto tranny in 2012 would pretty much equal a 3.73/auto in the previous few years. I really dunno, but I did drive a 3.2 JK...2012...and it would make a great DD. I just need to tow a boat once in a while.|

So it sounds like we have a way to get both packages with the 3.73 BUT there is STILL A QUESTION HOW ONE GUARANTEES TRAILER SWAY DAMPENING since AHQ orders can no longer add AHT as an option for $25. Wow, someone needs to get their act together!!!! Thanks for the info!

|bigegriff||I just ordered a manual JKU sport today and we had a time with the tow packages. Here's what happened as we built the Jeep. This axle ratio/tow package thing has us all confused so I tried to order both the max tow and trailer tow plus the 3.73 gears. Once we selected the max tow package, it greyed the trailer tow package out and changed the price of the gears to $0. So, at least for me today, you could only order the max tow OR the trailer tow, but not both. The higher gears were included with max and you had to order them separately with the trailer tow. I ended up ordering the trailer tow package (AHT - $270) and the 3.73 gears ($50). As far as we were able to tell, that ended up being the max package plus the trailer sway dampening.|

I still have NO IDEA to their rhyme and reason for most of this crap!!! Why make it difficult and piss people off!!
|08-24-2011 10:38 PM|
|Smshly616||I have a question about the trailer sway damping. I thought I should get it because I was under the impression that it came with both tow packages. It's not on my build sheet so I assume now that I am not getting it. Does it really make a big difference?|
|08-24-2011 10:26 PM|
You'll be perfectly happy with the 3.21s. And so will I (I have no choice, really).
|08-24-2011 10:21 PM|
|Megafriday||Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow and perhaps ordering another.|

If you have your VIN (and you probably do if it has been a week or more since ordering- talk to your dealer) then you can go to Chrysler.com and go to "Contact us" Then go to "Customer Assistance" Use the last 8 of your VIN and fill out the rest of required info. Last just type in that you would like a copy of your build sheet and they will e-mail to you. It took me less than 24 hours to get an answer!

OK, as I'm waiting on a '12 JK with the 6 sp manual and the AHT tow group package, can anyone confirm their '12 with a similar configuration came with the 3.73's? Looking at the posted gearing matrix on the first page, I'm reading manual transmissions with the "Trailer Tow" package have 3.73's included. Please confirm or deny if you have a '12 manual with the tow package.
From reading the posts, I believe the folks having this issue have autos, but it's not always specifically stated, and I'd hate to see this new vehicle I've been anticipating show up with anything less than 3.73s!
|08-24-2011 09:29 PM|
So in summary it seems that if you want 3.73 you must do one of the following:
1.) order AHQ Max Tow
2.) select the check box w/ 3.73 option (automatics $0 BUT MUST STILL BE SELECTED and manual trans. you must select AND pay $50)
If anyone disagrees with the above statements, let me know so I can edit it. If we all agree this is the best way to guarantee 3.73 then I might have a mod. put this in my initial post for those who order from now on to refer to (perhaps along with that graphic which sort of shows this in detail of course.)
|08-24-2011 07:46 PM|
|oilwell1415||So it looks like they changed it once for initial orders, then changed back to including 3.73 with the auto at a later time?|
|08-24-2011 07:08 PM|
|37Olivestreetbrews||Okay so let's say 3.21 is on the lot but I could order at 3.73. Is it worth waiting if I don't plan on towing or off roading? Help I am a newbie. Does the 3.73 matter if you are not going to tow or off road (at least not more than 10%). Just trying to figure out my options if I go to the dealer and they have one with everything I want but no 3.73 is it that big of a deal. Especially if I ask them to throw on a tow hitch with 3.21 so I could pull something home from Home Depot if I need to rent equipment or tow debris to the dump/transfer station.|

Boy that is a curious build sheet. I doubt you're getting two. I think it just means dual top group...but, hell, I dunno. I talked with a Chry Customer Care rep today about my jeep which I ordered Auto/AHT and it came with 3.21. I told her that this issue is still very big and that even dlrs sometimes don't know what they are ordering or getting. Imagine guys not on a forum and not having any clue about this issue. Imagine they take possession of the jeep and then find out they don't have what they ordered ! Now there's a big mess for sure and unhappy customers. At least we know and can refuse one built wrong.
Anyway, this gal seemed to really be paying attention to my dissertation and that dlrs sometimes don't know. I suspect a service/sales bulletin is on the way. I asked if she could expedite my re-order and she said she'd try...gave her the Vin...we shall see.

Today I asked the service manager for a build sheet for my VIN'd Jeep. He said he couldn't get it until it went KZ.
So then he builds another Jeep just like mine and when he clicks on AHT trailer tow it shows a 3.73 option. It will not let him pick AHQ Max Tow at that point. So he deselected AHT trailer tow and selected AHQ Max Tow and it greyed out the 3.73 option but now allowed him to select both tow groups. So yet another change on the Chrysler ordering site- total crap- At the very least Jeep should put out a bulletin to dealers stating the mistake and stating that customers who ordered up to a date would get the 3.73- I know I would be livid if I got screwed after sitting down with the dealer seeing 3.73 in the AHT option!!!
So I get home today and got an email back from the Jeep and in fact I CAN GET A BUILD SHEET!
So mine shows 3.73 on the build sheet. But I have some questions about my build sheet- below are the details from the build sheet (obviously I took some out and colored them based on package-
1. Am I getting two soft tops here?
2. why does it say "painted" front bumper?
3. Are my side steps round ones? When it says "Tubular side steps" are they the flatter typical factory steps I see on most?

|Dogface||What he said too This trailer tow/auto/axel debacle has been going on since early July. Dealers should know this but since you do now, you should be right there with them watching all the order process, especially when it comes to the axel selection.|
|08-24-2011 09:54 AM|
Assume nothing and demand everything you want with your dealer and get it in writing.
If you want Trailer Sway Damping, get the Trailer Tow package - it doesn't come with the Max Tow Package.
If you want 3.73, tell them you want 3.73 (Sport, Sahara only - Rubi comes with 4.10).
If you want 3.73 in Sport or Sahara, tell them to pick it...especially if you order Trailer Tow.
Max Tow is a misnomer. It isn't Max anything. It's the Trailer Tow package without Trailer Sway Damping. Getting Max Tow AND Trailer Tow is throwing money down the drain, in my opinion.
If you pay full price for Max Tow ($320) and Trailer Tow ($270) on one vehicle, then I would be demanding 2 wiring harnesses and 2 trailer hitches.
