jesus mine weighs so much its ridiculous. i added an internal box to seal off the sub and also used 3/4 inch mdf board for the entire shell.. as its sitting now with out the drawer and sub its probably close to a hundred.

Damn now that is cheep. I just stumbled across the site and saved it. A drop down gate is a mod I want to end up doing

correycinciyj sweet idea i was thinking of something similar with the tire mount but i have the half top that comes down right behind the front seats and then covers the bed. so tire wont fit. but great ingenuity man.

It is, but its allthreaded down to 1/4 inch hardwood if it comes through, i have some other problems too lol! I fell its pretty safe! Thanks for the compliment too

Doubt it would have any effect either way. Maybe the extra weight would cause more stress on the new hinges, but not much. Better off that than the stock lateral hinges. Which, btw, are my new biggest pet peeve of TJs (took over top spot from torx. I'm sure torx will regain the title eventually.) That damned aluminum oxidized the bolts, which caused rot on the inside of the pass rear tub corner. Gonna have to cut it out and weld new sheet metal in.

I was going to try and find an old CJ tailgate that read "JEEP"; but then decided it wasn't worth the $$ since it would be covered by my spare. There are a few floating around at decent prices though.

Gonna finish my drop down tailgate conversion this weekend. New hood arrived and that plus the tailgate get painted next Monday.

We gonna try to squeeze in another HORD Badlandz trip before the winter?

IndyJeepMan New pictures in daylight!

IndyJeepMan Well ive already taken the OEM carrier off and the whole tailgate and "lower valance" will be covered with aluminum from savvy! Powdercoated of course, make sure to get some pics up man, all those hours turn into good pay checks!
08-25-2011 02:38 AM
BigEZ Nice job Wes. I like the spare tire mount. What are you going to do about the OEM carrier and threaded holes? Take it off and fill them or fab some kind storage that bolts onto the tailgate?

I got me a swing out rear bumper, so I recently took my OEM carrier off. I think I am just going to have a body shop fill and repaint my tailgate.

I been working 16 hour days so I have just not had time to post my most recent work up. Great job on keeping up with all those pics.

08-24-2011 01:25 PM
GoldenSahara00 If I ever make a trip out your way Ill stop by for it, hahaha. I probably will just fab one of my own somehow, I have been contemplating difference designs but just haven't had time for it lately.
