|Fweaky||I think all automatics in 1995... 32rh for the 4.0 and 30rh for the 2.5 were 3 speed.|

So im am buying the 95 tonight, here is a new question.
does the automatic behind the 95 have overdrive?
im gona have 3 YJ's tonight....

|Fweaky||I have an 89 and I run a AMC 360 behind that tranny. My YJ has 225,000 miles on it (about 25K with the 360). I pulled the tranny and had it checked out and serviced when I installed the V8 at 198,000 miles. It works very well with this set up.|

Well, i decided to buy it, im picking it up in the morning Thursday. its got an aftermarket weber carb on it, all the emissions have been stuffed in a box.
And with all the carb vs efi threads, I remembered a thread I saw a while ago about swapping a 4.0 head and injection onto a 4.2l
If ANYONE has a link to such a project that was sucessfull, please post it here, ill do this and sell my 90 2.5L (after swapping all my goodies over).

|jakec||i have a tf999 and love it. ive heard it bolts up to some dodge v8s but im not sure which ones.|

|tslroper||Honestly, I couldn't help you there. I'm sure advance adapters can either tell if it does/doesn't or can tell you which of their kits you need to make it work. Let me know what you find though, I have a 97 ram 1500 that may be an engine donor lol|

they used a TF999? ok, for some strange reason i thought they used the same Japanese pos they used in the Cherokee.
Sooo, next question is, will it bolt up to a 5.2L Magnum?
As far as gas milage, im commuting in a 90 yj with a 2.5L ax5 on 33's......

|456yj||I got a 1990 yj with the 4.2 and my tranny is leaking cant find where but she still is going strong|
|08-29-2011 10:20 AM|
|tslroper||My 1990 has a 4.2 with the tf999 auto and its done great for me. The only problem ive had was a leaking shifter shaft seal. $20 and 30 minutes of time and that was fixed. The only downside to it ive seen is the gas mileage, but you expect that fom any auto trans. I get 15-16 average and im sure with two more gears it would be a bit more.|

|Nubby55||The auto behind the 4.2 is a very good trany, it's a trocflite 999 mopar put them behind 360s in pick-ups|

Im about to buy a 89 with a 4.2 and an automatic
Im about to buy a 89 with a 4.2 and an automatic.
Question, is the automatics in these Jeeps worth keeping? or should I just drop in a GM 4.3L 4L60E and NP231C out of a 96+ S- series/93+ 5.7L K1500 manual.
Yes, im pretty set on the OBD2 setup, and/or 94+ full size only because the manuals from those are the better NV3500 (instead of the 5LM60 and its other varieties).
my 90 has the 2.5L with the AX5, 4" lift on 33's...
If i engine swap, Ill sell my 90....
