I think it has a lot to do with where we are.

3500 miles on the JK and only had it off pavement three times. That was just on groomed trails on hunting property. The tires were the only things that got dirty.

im-ocd My 2010 Wrangler Unlimited has about 8,800 miles on it.
I have not driven it off road, so the percent of off road use is 0%
However, I did drive about 60 miles in 4WD on snowy roads last winter.

Zip Brand new to Wrangler. I actually have to drive considerable distances to off road, being from the city. (SE Penn) Havent done it yet but trying to get something together with some regulars. Its only been a month with my new Wrangler, so im still having fun driving on paved (potholed) roads.

That's hilarious. I have to say the same for some of these Pennsylvania roads - I will have to adjust my numbers here.

A friend of mine has a really well built JK on 40's. This thing will go anywhere and he drives it home at the end of the day. The only time something has broken on it has been from potholes.

cu in oz I live on the SouthCoast of The Peoples Republic of Massachusetts.

Our roads are so bad in places that I figure mine is "off-road" 100% of the time compaired to more "advanced" civilizations . We have pot holes that you have to use 4L. to get out of .

joe002 We bought the Jeep for off-roading. It sits in the garage until we take it out. We donít have trails at our house so we usually have to take a freeway to the trail, then hit the trail, then drive home. Most trails arenít very long (rocks and washes, etc.), but we spend many hours on them.

If you count the miles that are actually on the trail it would be miniscule. If you count the miles that are related to driving off-road (i.e. getting to the trail, the trail, driving home), then I would say 95%.

If we couldnít off-road then the Jeep would be sold.

PAVarminter Thank you for your honesty, Scooter Trash. This is my point - and it is just to stimulate some conversation - as a percentage, I believe most Jeepers over estimate the amount, and severity, of their off road activity.

Five miles off road can last all morning! I know. Especially with several other vehicles. Someone always gets in trouble. This is my point. As a percentage of off roading I believe most Jeepers are less than 1%. And that is fine. But if you really consider this percentage, and take a hard look at the trails you drive on, do you need all those extra sexy lifts, tires, lights, rock sliders, winches, etc.? I guess you do, if that five miles is extreme rocky steep muddy trail. But I bet most Jeepers here don't do that extreme type of driving.

But, maybe I'm wrong.

tjt94 This question might be looked at better from a hour meter rather than the odometer. My percentages would go up from that standpoint.

Scooter_Trash Wow this is tough to answer. We go wheeling about 2 to 3 times a month. While I might put 500 to 700 miles on the Jeep a month on the road, we can spend all day on the trails and only go 5 miles. This is just a guess., I've never actually looked at the odometer. I'll have to set the trip next weekend. Now I'm curious. Of course it also depends on the group. The more Jeeps we have, the slower we move.

Yes, but you have to be in good with the landowners. In central PA, meaning Clearfield County, there are plenty of places to off road, in the old strip mine areas around Houtzdale and Ramey. But I digress . . .

JeeperJake I'm on the borderlands of the Oregon Outback, near the crest of the Cascades.

Some days I'm on 90% dirt, gravel or logging roads.

Some days, like yesterday, I put 250 miles on pavement.

Some days I don't go anywhere.

Some days I tow my Bantam around with stuff in it.

Mileage percent "farm/off pavement" maybe 15%.

Time percent "farm/off pavement" maybe 50%. Oh, wait.....does time on the wrangler forum count as "on" or "off" pavement??? HAR!!!!

I think riding western Baja, would put your percentage up. In Baja, you can rack up the miles fast off road - flying along in the sand. In tight "Eastern" situations, the driving is slower, maybe more technical? Yes, I believe if I was in Cali, I would have a higher percentage. I alway wanted to drive Baja.

Mr. Sinister Mine is my daily driver, so obviously the vast majority of mileage is on road, but I make sure I get it good and dirty a couple times a month.

DonC72 Just looped to 45k on my 08, bought it with 40k. IN that time, I had her upstate PA doing some minor field and streams on a private house for a long weekend and then OBX. I'd say about 10% is about right for me so far. I also do lots of camping and fishing on weekends with my son and any chance I get I drive into dirt. LOL.

However, if I could find a club near me in PA , I'd do it whenever I had the chance. I want to learn more but I feel intimidated asking questions on the trail. Lots of trial by fire for me!

The biggest difference is that I am now able to go back into the rocks and desert where I have not been able to go for a few years so my miles traveled patterns are going to change. There are lots of fantastic old mining roads and Baja of course! The JK is going to be a great rig for Mexico.

Nadurra Well, I live and work in the DC area. So my vehicles see a lot of time on the 495 Beltway and Dulles Toll Road. I came from a Z71 Tahoe. I maybe head off about 10% to 20% when shooting, mountain biking, or camping. I just can't get away like I used to when I was 25 years old. It's good to have when you actually need it. Now that I just got a JK I'll plan to get off-road a bit more. It wasn't that terribly exciting in my Z71.

Percentage of off road use: How much do you drive your JK off road, really?

Starting this thread after spouting off on other threads on this issue. Give us a ratio in your "guesstimation" and please be honest - how many of you JK owners drive that much off road? Give a percentage, and describe what you consider off road. I'll start . . .

I drive 10% off road, meaning that 10% of my mileage is on tight, steep, muddy and rocky trails, or on uneven farm roads, or on unimproved mountain logging roads. The other 90% of my mileage is on paved roads. So for every 100 miles I drive, that is about 10 miles off road. I have 900 miles on my JK, and have driven a little over 90 miles off road. That is a lot when you think about it.

There is no "dishonor" in NOT driving off road. You are all Jeepers, my friends.
