|Zip||Im brand new to Jeep and 4x4. i wish I understood what you guys were talking about. When I tried to put my Sport in 4h and 4l, i found it to be a little difficult getting it into both. Is this normal for the wrangler? Also, I did have to use some force to get it into 4l. I was at a stop when I did this. How can I tell if any of the above mentioned (not good) things happened to my Sport??? Also, Any info for future reference would be great.....Thanks|

While getting an oil change yesterday, I decided to pick up a few of these. Got 4, figured if I am on the trail with other JK's and they have an issue, i can help them out too.
Saying that, the part number changed by one letter to Part# 1-68064273AB
Not that he had any trouble finding it under the old part number. It was pretty costly though. 30 cents each, so 4 of them cost me $1.32 with tax.

|ESP||I often wonder about this. I know the part is "designed" to break if there is too much force or it is binding but I hear about this happening to those when they are shifting correctly and applying only the needed amount of pressure. I guess this falls under poor design. I've not had an issue with mine and I've shifted into both many times but it worries me because I don't know if I'd know what to do and where to look to fix the plastic clip if it breaks? The OP said that his didn't even break and his t-case linkage was doing the same thing as someones who did by remaining in neutral and almost stranding him.|

If it moves "Freely" the bushing is "Kapoot", if it won't move-
99% of the time you have to lightly coast in "N" untill the gears line up, then the shift lever will move back easy--NEVER TRY FORCE !!
Sometimes with an auto, you can just rock from "D" to "R" and that'll lineup the gears-
Thats the same movement for keeping the jeep from getting stuck in sand/snow !!

If it is the latter, I believe the above member is probably correct, but if it is the former, I'm not sure what your problem may be. As far as I know, when the "bushing" breaks, the shift lever is able to move with little to no impedance.

It happens to many. The Transfer Case has a protection to keep people from forcing it into gear when it is in a bind. (that's supposed to be the reason for it but to most it is a poor design.) There are two plastic clips on the cable ends from the shifter to the lever at the transfer case. One at the shifter where the cable connects and one at the transfer case. If the cable isn't off the transfer case then you will need to get under the center console and replace the plastic clip there.
The clip is only around .57 cents and can only be bought at a dealer. Buy extra just in case.

Has this happen to anyone's JK
So i'm with my girl about to hit the small trails by my house. I go to switch into 4x4 low. When i got to neutral, it felt like the cable disconnected from transfer case, leaving me in neutral. I could not move out of neutral with the shifter knob and had to get out and under the car. So then i had to manually move it with my hand to get back into drive(which was a pain and burned my self a bit with the exhaust). Was wondering if this has happened to anyone and what did it end up being? I checked the next day to see if the cable had snapped, but it didn't. Any ideas?
