Probably a week or two, then on to LA for my son and Silicon Valley for me. I'm sure the lockers will make Moab a better experience. We could have used them last time we were out and the stream bed turned out to be mud instead of gravel. Took our Cherokee and most of the tow straps we had to pull it out.

That's what happens when you venture 'where no man has gone before'.

TRC042 Thanks for the advice, it will come in handy. We found a Big Tex 16 ft trailer for $1300; dual axle, brakes, everything we need. It was a miracle really: around here people think a 20 year old trailer that needs work is worth 2 grand.

Rubicondon53 Oh! You were going to trailer the jeep,,, ok, I'd still flat tow it .. Not sure how, but it is in your owners manual.. Those dollys are horrible, and the cost of renting a two axle trailer is prohibitive...

While thats a nice trailer I doubt it would hold a jeep...

The lockers only lock under power so... they should not lock. What about renting a dolly or a trailer from uhaul?

InvertChaos I thought it was transmission in gear and transfer case in neutral?

97 TJ with Spartan Lockers

I have a dilemma on my hands. I just installed Spartan Lockers and 4.11 gears on my Wrangler. Am traveling to the LA area by way of MOAB (currently live in CT), and the trailer I had lined up to borrow is no longer available. I cannot afford to buy a trailer and I have a deadline to get to LA for a job and apartment full of new furniture. my question is this: can I safely use a tow-bar to tow my Wrangler that great a distance?

Logic tells me that towing with a tow-bar is safe for short distances: with the tranny in neutral and the driveshafts removed the lockers should simply do their job. But 3500 miles? I'm afraid the pumpkins will be full of scrap metal by the time I arrive at MOAB.

Can't borrow the money for a new trailer, and in six weeks of searching I have discovered that used trailers - even those covered in rust and in questionable condition (ie POS') go for over $2000 here. Ironically I can get a brand new trailer locally for $3100, but that ain't gonna happen.

Anyone have any experience with this?
