|MichiganJeepster||Electrical gremlins on 2012's too. I have my JKU in the dealer for a second time because everytime I get out or open a door the horn blasts for 45 seconds. Somtimes it will not go off until im about 75' away after locking it and then it blasts for 45 seconds. Very annoying. Dealer replaced horn relay switch and cruise control switch.|

|jeepkingtn||I just sent MikeD a pm asking for an update. I just bought a 12 Rubi a couple of weeks ago and don't want to experience a similar problem. Thanks for keeping us updated.|

|2012-Rubicon||You are not alone my friend. I had this issue for the first time the other day as well.|
|02-27-2012 10:48 AM|
I'm trying to be passive about this issue, can you tell?
|02-27-2012 10:41 AM|
|j0nx||This whole thing makes no logical sense to me. I mean who spends $40k on a vehicle that has reproducible mechanical failure that the dealer won't fix and then lets it sit in the garage for 6 months without taking any real steps towards repair or recourse? I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous. It's your money I guess and if you feel like peeing it away then vive la freedom! I would have already dealt with it one way or another myself.|

|Silverton34||I've done nothing with mine yet. It lives in a corner of the garage for the winter so I have not driven it since early November. Out of sight out of mind I guess. I sent an email to the dealer about 10 days ago and he won't call or email me. I have a trip scheduled to Moab in mid April and will probably just drive it as is. It did not strand me last year when I drove it, it just delays the trip by a few minutes untill it clears up. Deep down I think there will be a fix at some point as others have experienced the problem too. I have so much $ in extras on mine I have been warned Lemon Law will not reimburse me. I really like the Jeep, I just want the transmission to work properly.|

|edmond||Did anything ever come of this?|

|oilwell1415||Night key drop. Even better. Or call roadside assistance and have it towed in on their nickel.|

|11-07-2011 03:21 PM|
Good idea, I'd use the night key drop. Then document with a witness, pictures, and a copy of the instructions I left for the service dept. That will look wonderful in court when they try and weasel out of the lemon law. Make sure you have the date, time, and number of days they had it. Repeat enough times to satisfy the lemon law rules.
That should cover you for the R/O they aren't generating. The judge would love to hear that too!
|11-07-2011 03:00 PM|
|oilwell1415||I would be really tempted to park it on their lot, walk in and hand the service writer the keys and tell him to call when it's fixed and leave before they can tell you anything else.|
|11-07-2011 02:43 PM|
|Silverton34||I'm still moving toward LemonLaw but to make it clean I have to have it in a minimum of two more times. The dealership won't make an appointment for me and says there is no point as they cannot fix it. My attorney says I really need the documentation to make the Lemon Law as easy as possible. The dealer knows where I am going with this and is resisting. It is all documented and will go in front of the judge.|
|11-07-2011 12:19 PM|
|daggo66||In the beginning you were so gung ho about the lemon law and your corporate attorney. What happened to all that?|
|11-07-2011 12:18 PM|
|daggo66||That's very odd. I had a service issue with my Liberty and filled out a negative survey and received an email to call them. The issue was resolved the next day.|
|11-07-2011 10:49 AM|
|Silverton34||Oh I filled it out weeks ago, they obviously don't give a flying crap what you write on them unless it is all positive so they can use it in their advertising. I detailed a lot of information on the survey and requested someone contact me, of course they didn't.|

Hearing of the others having this problem makes me even happier that I got the 6 speed.
Did any of you fill out your "How happy are you with your purchase?" survey yet? I haven't because I wanted to get some miles on first.

As more 2012 owners begin taking their Jeeps off road and using four wheel drive for longer periods of time there will be a lot more complaints of this. In a sadistic sort of way I'm glad it is not just me with these problems. Maybe Chrysler will get to work on a fix.
I'm actively trying to sell my 2012 Rubicon, having been absolutely blown off by Chrysler and the dealer on my problems I want no part of anything they make. I have a small business with 40 employees and we buy/lease several new vehicles each year. This is exactly why we don't mess around with Chrysler products.
I bought a Polaris Rzr S last week, this thing is serious fun and should satisfy my Jeep needs for awhile. When my Jeep sells I'll begin looking for an '05-'06 Rubicon that is out of warranty and can be fixed by anyone. This way I should be able to potentially never give Chrysler another dime!
Am I bitter? Yes I am! I have never been blown off like this by any manufacturer/dealer and I won't be again. There are manufacturers out there that have an interest in continued sales, this one doesn't.

Well looks like joined this club today
Was out at the sand dunes driving in low range, pulled up to a pretty steep drop off,
Decided to back up and find a different route.
Backed up about 100 ft, put it back in drive..... Nothing
Shifted to park, back to drive..... Nothing
Back to reverse and it engaged.
Shut off the engine
Got out and checked under the hood
Didn't see any leaks
Started it and put it in drive... Engaged,
Worked fine for several hours then late in the day after crossing a rough wash and climbing a short hill
Back to reverse to turn around
Shifted to Drive. Nothing
Shut it off restarted and it worked fine
I can't even get my dealer to fix the airbag rattle so no reason to take it in for this
BTW 1600 miles on this jeep

|kbruce130||Hopefully I'm not being overly optimistic, but I figure Jeep will find a fix for this in short order.|

|demarpaint||This problem would drive me nuts until I had it fixed. Good luck to both of you guys. Having an automatic tranny stuck in 3rd or 4th gear is not good under any conditions.|

After reading this tread a few days ago, I figured I would try to duplicate Silverton's problem the next time I took my new JKUR out. To my surprise, I was able to partially duplicate it yesterday. I was on some flat sandy trails in north FL and had ran in 4h for about an hour. Just out of boredom and because it's a new toy with 1700 miles on it, I put it in 4L and engaged both lockers. I ran it this way in loose sand for a few minutes with out any issues. I then took it out of 4L and put it back into 4H. When I did this it felt like it locked into about 3rd or 4th gear. It was sluggish and had very little power. The dash indicator said it was in D and I attempted manual shifting without any affects. I thought I would at least get some change on the dash indicator with the manual shifting, but it never changed and always indicated D. I shifted it back into 4L and everything seemed to work fine. I then went from 4L back to 4H and the same thing happened again. Next I went from 4H to 2H and all worked well. I then went from 2H back to 4H and this time all worked as advertised. Not exactly sure what is causing this, but my first guess it software.
Other than this I've had zero problems with my 2012 JKUR. My wife and I both love it and plan on keeping it for many years to come.

|Silverton34||Trying a different route, this morning I called the dealer principal and tossed his service department under the bus. At first he was defensive but recognized my name from when I was in the business 18 years ago so I have credibility. He has called me back once already and is on the issue with Chrysler Technical Service. I'll keep everyone posted as to how this goes.|

I understand this thread details a freak problem - but it is a freak problem that the dealer and corporate refuse to address. If I get a freak problem on purchase, I want a corporation who gives a dman about their product and their reputation. Clearly they currently do not.
Add onto that others having problems (missing skid plates?), mis-torqued front end components contributing to death wobble, and a inconsistent and strange approach to which spring rates end up in which Jeep? Poor managment, lack of quality control.
I want a JK Sahara with the 3.6 and auto 5 speed, but will wait and see if Jeep can get their act together. If I do wait as late as the 2014 introduction of models, I can always grab a left over 2013 model if the 2014 re-design does not appeal to me. That will also give time for the shakedown of the 2012/2013 models for the bugs to be worked out. IF Jeep cares enough to reslove the problems that is.
I don't want to steal OPs thread so I won't post any more on my personal thoughts and plans, but I am in the OPs corner 100 percent on this issue.
Any progress on Jeep fixing this?
