Fuel It changes with engine rpm. Sometimes it doesn't do it right away, but maybe 20 seconds after you start it. Then it ticks for about a minute if you let it idle. Ive been moving vehicles around in my garage quite a bit this week, sometimes takes a few minutes to get them all shuffled around. I usually jump in the jeep and go, with very little idle time. I don't like to let things idle alot. I see a couple of other posts about this noise, sounds like I need to do some searching.

Also forgot to mention, my expedition made the same sound when the air pump kicked on for the load leveling suspension, could be the locker pump pressurizing when you start up.

Fuel Mine does the same thing when you first start it. 04 Tj rubicon. Lasts for a minute or two unless I raise the rpm. Sounds like a hydraulic lifter. It never did it until I changed the oil the first time. I put castrol 10-30 in. Just bought my jeep august 26th with 58,000 miles.

jrussblues Did they look at the exhaust manifold? If they replaced the cats there is a possibility that the manifold gasket was damaged. Also, check the fan and shroud, it could simply be hitting on any of a number of things wedged in there. I found a very old dead bird in mine when i did my body lift.

I thought about the exhaust, so at the last oil change I had them check the exhaust. also I had a bad catalytic converter when I bought it, thankfully it had a 8/80 emissions warranty. I got a new downpipe to muffler with 3 cats! so the exhaust has been looked over. I have not pulled the opda, ive just been going on what ive found number/date wise. I might cancel the appointment... Just worried it may not be covered under powertrain warranty. I dont have much spare cash laying around... I guess I could cash in my 4 Litre carlo rossi jug of change...

Mr Smeee That sounds like symptoms of a crack in the exhaust manifold.

05 LJ Rubi with a tick tick tick....

My 2005 LJ Rubi that I bought back in April (not my 1st jeep I've had a TJ,YJ,XJ) has developed a loud tick on startup. With my past jeeps w/4.0L im used to the normal rattle and tick, but with this rubi it is loud untill I press the gas to rase the RPM's alittle does it go away. The Rubi has 62,xxx miles on it and since ive had it (got it a 57K) I get free oil changes at the dealer they have been right at 3 months/ 3000 miles. The jeep does not use any oil and the old plugs (champions, that were set at .050-.055 by P.O.!!!) looked fine with no sign of oil on them. So I scheduled a service apointment for wed morning, dropping off tues night so it will be a cold start.... and with labor at $60/half hour... ughh. When I got the jeep I went for the remainder of the 7/70 powertrain warranty, so im hoping this will be covered (1 so I dont have to pay the labor charge, and 2 so my jeep will be fixed! minus the $100 service charge). So should I run to the auto parts store and get some Oil treatment, or just deal with it? And the main question... What Is It!! what is making noise? is sounds like it is coming from the valve area or atleast the top end of the motor. Oh and yes ive asked about the oil pump drive gear, my 4.0 is outta the build range for the problem. Once the free oil changes stop I want to go back to Mobil 1 (I used that in my 05 TJ X, that I traded in for the '05 LJ Rubi). So.... any thoughts? Thanks, Todd
