nicosuave I cant tell because i cant see more than half way up the oil pan because the tranny blocks my view.

mrbigjeep where is it coming from? between top of oil pan and tranny? mine leaks there too...but my oil is never low so its not too bad

whitebuffalo hose it down with gunk engine degreaser and watch it again. if its coming form the rearward side of the pan up high, chances are its a rear main. fairly common on the 4 bangers i believe. i look at oil leaks on mine as rust prevention

nicosuave Ok, thanks Bluvikng. Does anyone else have any suggestions or have experiance with this?

bluvikng Cleaning it all off, may require dropping the skid plate. It may be a very slow leak that could take a long time to be noticeable. Just trying to suggest the easiest method of detection.

nicosuave It's seems impossible to tell though because you can't see the top backside of the oil pan because of the tranny

bluvikng The easiest way, would be to clean up all the oil underneath, and then you will be able to see where it starts coming from.

rear main leak?

So I think i found the jeep i want. Its white with black cragar rims and a black top. But here is the problem, I cant tell if the oil pan is leaking or if its the rear main seal. It is the 4 cyl. Does anyone know of a way to tell if its the oil pan or the rear main without taking out the transmission?
