Weird Blower issue

The other day I was running the fan on high in my '98 TJ SE. Once I got home and turned it off and removed the key, the blower kept blowing full speed. I could not change the speed or get it to stop, so I pulled the fuse behind the glove box but no change, so I disconnected the battery. I went back out 30 minutes later and reconnected the battery. the fan worked fine on all speeds and shut off when I turned the Jeep off. I have not been running my fan on high since this has happen and have not had any more problems. A couple of months ago I had an issue with the fan only operating on low speed. It has not done that again. Any suggestions on what I might need to do to fix it? Thanks.
