1monday CHMSL ? I had to look it up to see what that stood for...good thing I'm not a lawyer

1monday you might be right robert lee...I wouldn't paint over it by chance that I MIGHT hafta go to court or get sued...too much pain in the a$$ for some paint that i wouldn't even see. I was just playing the devils advocate...you win this round

If I was in a scenario where someone with their brake lights painted over stopped short and I hit them, and in the process got injured and missed work, racked up huge medical bills and otherwise changed my lifestyle, I would lawyer up VERY fast. Then it would be up to the judge or jury to decide who is at fault.
Clearly not a lawyer. It may be required in your state, but it's not required in all states (including the one in which I'm licensed to practice law, Texas).

One can sue anyone for anything in this great nation, but having a painted third brake light is far more likely to work as a defense ("I wouldn't have hit him if I'd have seen the third brake light") than a cause of action ("He caused the wreck with his painted third brake light, and I'm entitled to compensation"). In fact, that's a loser right from the start, for lots of reasons. Someone may sue, but they won't win.

I might have to look that one up
I am not a lawyer but play one on the internet
Any decent in my opinion lawyer will tear you up for covering any brake light, safety first!

If you rear end some one it is your fault but then there are always exceptions, ways around, and other types of fallout possible especially if you mess with safety and warning stuff.

Then again I could be totally wrong about this, but I would not paint over my break light. I would draw the line at guards over the lights.

Espo78 It doesn't have to be against the law for you to sue someone over it. But it is against the law.

Since that's optional equipment even Johnny Cochran (God rest his shyster soul) wouldn't get that dog to hunt.

The same argument could be made for anyone who night shades any of there lights. I do agree with you that if an accident were to happen, and someone was observant enough to see the paint, it could come into play legally. On the other hand, it looks like he/she took care to place the gaps in paint over the actual bulbs, meaning it will illuminate with about the same intensity. I think it looks pretty cool.

Yeah, Linx-X isn't cheap. Stopped by the local place today to get a quote on doing a front bumper --> $250.

The big draw back is you have to take the foot off the jack but it keeps it out of the weather and up out of the way. Best of all it cost easily half as much as the clamp brackets to make and they don't mount it right across the rear tail gate.
What size were the screws?
