jeep-noobie this post is pretty old but ill give it a shot ! i hydrolocked my 2.5 yj the other day, im new to this, i pulled the plugs, cleaned everything out, check all my fuild everything is fine, i have compression, gas and SPARK. but the sucker still wont turn on ! need help ASAP its my one and only car !

2005TJSOCAL Ok yeah i put reg oil when i got back, ran it for 10 minutes, dumped it, changed filter, what maybe a week do it again i dont drive her that much. Ill do it though

I actually got it to fire up and had to pull a trailer all the way home. I have changed the oil and filter but thats it. It seems to be running good so far. I also have been running fuel cleaner every tank so far.

justin399 I'd pull the plugs and the fuel pump relay and try and turn over the motor. Hopefully it'll blow out the water. Good luck with the head gasket.

Did this last weekend changed the plugs and oil and filter oil looked like milk so it needed it but to be on the safe side I would change both any way

Sounds like a fun and stressful day.

If all the other fluids look good, don't change them. Except the oil. Change the oil and filter.

2005TJSOCAL Hello,
I hydrolocked my 05 TJ last weekend. I got it towed out of the hole and pulled the plugs. Finally I got it to shoot the water out and then took intake off and cleaned. I ran gas in the intake and turned over to where I believe got everything out. I cleaned the plugs and it fired up. Is there anything else I should change? My diffs have breathers but should I change all fluids anyway? No water in oil, no water in trany but I think I have sand between the tranny and motor, and in the starter still. Thanks

X2. Check to see if the air filter's wet. If yes, start pulling plugs.

95YamJam That or pull the spark plugs, turn it over, spray some oil or some wd40 in the cylinder, turn it over, plut the plugs back in, check the oil to make sure it's not milky, start it back up, hope theres no damage and keep on wheeling.

But yes don't try to restart it.

If my car stalled after running it through water, I wouldn't do a dmn thing! Just let it sit there and cool down. Pop the hood a bit. Hum a tune or two.

Dance GvN Dance My friend hydrolocked his 07 ranger and it revved to about 2000 and stalled and he did this over and over just to get it out, and all he did was get a rear main seal leak and he was in 3 feet of water
But it all depends
You couldve gotten water in your heads and like he said it couldve increased compression dramatically and blow some rings

95YamJam My guess is a popped head gasket. Adding water to the cylinder increases your compression exponetially. It's gotta go somewhere...

bc3_Jeep A....what do you mean by the "back of the engine"......is it a freeze plug.... a hole... a crack???

B....did you suck water up through your intake???? Was air filter soaked??? If not... doubt you hydro locked..... I have seen hydro lock... engine seizes INSTANTLY.....

C.....if it is turning over, I doubt anything major broke....possibly a fuel or spark issue from all the H2O.....

Jeep YJ Hydrolocked

I hit a large puddle (10ft x 8ft ) maybe two, two in a half feet deep at 25 mph (3500)rpm and my engine stalled at the end of it. I got it started and revved it up until the white/grey smoke got to a minimum, and towed it home. Now it won't start at all. I drained out all the fluids and put a solution in the oil to clean the impurities out, no leak there, but when I put new anti-freeze in it all came out the back of the engine what did I most likely break and is it gonna cost an arm and a leg?
