|1BLKJP||3.75 sounds about right for aftermarket wheels. And if you are getting even 32x12.50's then the backspacing will push the rim out far enough where you won't have any rubbing on the control arms when you turn the wheels or stuff the rear tires.|
|07-20-2006 07:46 PM|
|mrbigjeep||i think the backspacing is either 4" or 3-3/4" (3.75") and im getting 32's|

|mrbigjeep||i have one more question before i go in and get them mounted tomorow...alright, i first went to the tire place and had them do a test fit with the new tires and rims to make sure they would fit and they did...but only with the new rim...the wheel they put on there was 8 inches wide...and they said something about 19mm offset...will the wheels that im getting from a friend (also 8 inches wide) fit just like the ones they put on??? or will they be different and possibly rub??|

|mrbigjeep||yeah...the dudes jeep from that link above is pretty sweet with those black wheels and the green jeep...my jeep is called a beryl green i think...now im really feelin good about the black wheels...im getting them for super cheap too|

I would have to agree with the majority of the other post's. The black steel wheels look better in my opinion. I dont know how everyone else feels about crome but its very nasty looking on a jeep. Now if you have a yukon with 30 inch wheels which is also nasty thats fine or a lowrider that is fine to. I have always thought that whatever color your jeep is matched with black looks great. white/black....blue/black.....red/black.....orange/black....
silver/black....green/black....black/black.... the list goes on and on and they all look sweet. Correct me if im wrong!!!!

|mrbigjeep||alright cool...i do some offroading and trail riding but no rocks...mostly trails and mud so i think im gonna go with the steel...plus they look cool too...called my friend up a few minutes ago and told him i can get them in the morning...so im getting the wheels in the morning and then im goin to the tire place to have them order my mud terrains if they dont already have them in stock...BTW i appreciate all the replys...oh and im pretty excited about the new tires and wheels considering i have to OK it all with my dad (which is a pain but he bought it for me so no big deal) and he OK'd it and is bein real cool about it|

Only thing that I have against those wheels are that they have to hang the weights on the lip of the rim to balance them. And if you do any rock crawling they will get torn off of their in a heartbeat. I have aluminum Eagle Alloys and I very rarely lose balance because of this. Plus the steel wheels are a lot easier to bend.
However that being said. If you dont do a lot of rock crawling then those wheels are perfect. They look pretty damn cool too.

|mrbigjeep||well im in luck because those wheels look great on your tj and my tj is about the exact same color! man thats great|

Hey Big Jeep and others,
I have a 2004 Willies Edition..
I am a daily driver with my jeep and go out weeling just about every weekend.
I put Steel old school rockcrawlers (black) on my TJ
They are not expensive in case of damade from wheeling and depending on the color of your JEEP they can look good as well.
Here's my Tj.
I'm all for the steel inexpensive practicality..
3.5 RE Procomp 6000 shocks
33' 12.5 x 15 BFG KO AT's
Black Rockcrawler wheels

|jeeperman||Have another reason to get black steelies... This past weekend, I dented the wheel so badly on the trail that the entire sidewall of the tire is deformed (think bicycle wheel after a 30 foot fall...) but it still holds air!!! I actually drove it back to town so that I could use the air tools to change out the spare. And even if the tire shop can't repair the wheel, I can buy a new one for ~$35! If you do any wheeling, I would highly recommend the steel wheels!|

|mrbigjeep||alright thanks...ill probably go with the steelies then...and just like u said, i can use the leftover money for other things...sounds good too me|
|07-20-2006 09:54 AM|
They both have good and bad qualities.
I went with the Black steelies, and for no reason other than I prefer the look.
Oh and I didn't mind putting the money into other things.

|mmasuperman12||i love them on mine, all black thats my theory and in maine it isnt hot enough to care that black can be a little hotter. mine is normally coverd in mud though so the dirt color is pretty uniform as well.|
|07-20-2006 05:11 AM|
|mrbigjeep||alright thanks...i dont think the steelies look to bad but how do yall think they look?|
|07-20-2006 12:27 AM|
|bluvikng||Steel is definately cheaper if your going to wheel it. MT Classics are great, but get damaged as well, you won't feel as bad dinging up the steel wheels. My MT's have taken a beating, need to buff them out, a lot of work.|

|khenderson||i've always like the mickey thompson classic II's, but i could never justify spending that kinda money when i could get clack steelies for dirt cheap. and if you're gonna wheel at all with a chance to jack up your rims, cragar's are the way to go. they're cheap to replace if need be.|

steelies vs. alloys
ok i finally got some money saved up and im gettin' new tires on the jeep along with some new wheels...i already know what tires im puttin on but im havin some trouble with the wheels...i know of course that this question will be a matter of opinion but should i go with some black steelies (i.e. cragar) which i can get for SUPER CHEAP from a friend...or should i go with some aluminum or alloy wheels that aren't steel (i.e. mickey thompsons) ??? im not sure...the steelies would be really cheap but im not sure how they would look...any opinions?
