If you're doing this, you need to be VERY CAREFUL which lines you buy. Many of them are not rated for high pressure for brake lines. Another thing to watch is that you don't pinch down the tube as you're bending it.

snwchris I got mine from the dealer last year.... so I'm assuming it was what they already had instock.

Most of the time its easier now a days like you said to buy the lines with fittings and buy a hand bender for making the bends.

Peepers You can not buy the metal lines from a dealer (that I know of). you can go to any parts store and for about $25 buy a section of line and a bender and make your own brake lines. You could also look into replacing the rubber portion of the line with a stainless steel line. It will come with new fittings for you to attach to the hard lines. This makes it much easier IMO.

snwchris The pre-bent hard lines (metal lines)???? you should be able to get from the Dealer, otherwise you can buy the line and put the bends in yourself, I've done that before as well.

YAHAHA Thanks. I'll check to see how many bends are needed in the brake line. I'd be worried about some garage just pulling any tubing and slappin in there, even if it can't handle the pressure of the brakes.

I'd still rather buy the lines & install them myself. That's just how I roll yo.

prowler I contemplated a similar repair to my aging Ford F250 a few months ago and ended up taking my truck to my local [independent] garage for an estimate. Instead of detailing the work hours, the guy asked my if I had some spare time to waste and then commenced pulling out my entire old rusty, leaking, brake line. He then ran the replacement line off a "reel". He fed the new line through the undercarriage without requiring a single splice. I was back home in under 2 hours and the total bill for tearing out the old line and installing the new line was $104.00.

My frustration at home in my shop had to do with needing more elbow room to work and the need to see clearly up under my truck. Also, there was the question of making a couple of splices up under there without much wiggle room - if and when I bought a replacement line from some supplier. The local garage owner worked with ease with my truck on his "lift". Prior to this experience, I had no idea a brake line replacement could be done so easily.

TJ Rear Brake Lines

I need to replace my rear brake cylinders on our TJ. The problem is, the brake line is rusted to the back plate. The bleeder valve is also rusted & won't budge. I'm guessing that if I put enough pressure to try to get these off, they will break.

So I'm preparing for the worst & figure I might as well replace the whole line, as long as it is probably going to break anyhow.

Local autoparts stores don't carry pre-formed OE brake lines & can't order them.

Anybody order these for their TJ and have recommendations for where to order from or where NOT to order these lines?
