|Jerry Bransford||That chipped spider gear probably won't cause you any problem. If it does, many 4x4 shops have spider gears in their junk boxes removed during locker installations they'll give you for free if you pay them to install them. Most people who have done locker installations give them free to other Jeepers, keep your eyes open.|

Don't weld the rear end up, unless it's purely an off road rig, you'll end up breaking more than you bargain for on the road. Even off road I wouldn't want a welded rear.
Check everything else out too and make sure that broken tooth didn't get caught in any of the other gears and mess them up.

they're called spider gears. cause of the chip is the craptastic D35c axle....but really who knows why, theres a number of stupid things one can do to make that happen.
honestly, parts and labor to replace it will be more expensive then just finding a junkyard axle, but here's the kit to fix it: Dana 35 Spider Gear Kit 1.5 / Dana 35 Spider Gears (94 & NEWER)

Help in identificaton of deifferential gear missing tooth picture
I changed the differential oil today and had alot of fine metallic matter like a glitter in the old oil. Upon cleaning and a closer inspection, I have a t\gear tooth from an unidetnefied part missing. Can anyone tell me what gear this and what would cause it? It is only one tooth which i find hard to understand how all the other teeth are not worn. If you click on the picture arrows show up pointing to the mising tooth.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
