InfernoGirl First consider whether you have a place to store a hard top when it's removed.... Then, do you have help in removing it? Many Jeepers survive perfectly well with only a soft top, others do fine with only a hard top. It ultimately comes down to you, but lots of folks with both tops find that the hard top just sits where ever it was last placed for years...

shell Welcome!

I have a soft top....that being said, I live in Texas where it rarely ever snows or gets that cold. It does just fine for me. Plus, I don't really have a place to store a hard top. I'd have to have a 3 car garage for that.

jcf Welcome to the forum The top issue is a matter of personal preferrance. I have both & I enjoy both, the worse part is changing at the end of the season. Incedently-when I got mine I tried to sell the soft top but I am glad I didn't now that I have used it I like it

Littleyellow Im in new york so i go through the snow season also. I have both tops and its nice to have both. In the summer its the soft top. Its easy to just take off the windows or if im out and it warmed up i can drop the whole thing. If your not going to drop the top ever and just use the ac all the time the hardtop would be better for year-round. Its much better in the winter for removing snow, cleaning windows. Its also much warmer than the soft top, or at least in my case with my tj. Its nice to have a top for each season.

Dual top group vs soft top only?

Due to the freak New England snow storm on October 29, when a moron hit my '03 liberty head-on, I am in the market for a new vehicle. Now that Wrangler offers creature comforts I can't live without, I'm about to purchase the Wrangler I've wanted since I was 13.

I put a deposit on a 2012, deep cherry red, manual transmission (I've never owned an automatic) Wrangler Unlimited Sahara and am super excited. My only question/concern is whether to go with the dual top group. The dealer will add/install the hard top, but I'm concerned about the one slice that's required to connect the electrical for the wiper/defroster.

The dealer says I don't NEED the hard top, even tried to talk me out of adding it, saying it's a waste of $1500 but if that's the case why is the dual top option so popular?

What say you, experienced jeep owners? Dual top or soft top only? Pros & cons?

Many thanks!
