ThisJk38 I came from a 2003 4dr Tacoma. As much as I loved that truck it fails in comparison to my 2011 jku sport. I haven't had any leaking problems and the Tacoma didn't pack much of a punch so I don't feel the lack of power, plus I've never been a speed demon. If I had to do it over again I'd probably try to negotiate some rubicon tires instead of the stock a/t tires, and probably would have gotten a soft top. I have space to store a hard top it but I can't take it off as much as I would like since it takes two people and can be awkward to carry. I also wouldnt have gotten running boards because after wheeling I realize rock rails are a lot more usefull.

Lane24 We have a 2011 Sport Unlimited. (4dr) Best move we ever made. Fun and very peppy in town. Could use a little more guts on the highway when you are going to pass, but really not an issue. If you step on it, it goes. You don't get thrown back in your seat, but it gets the job done. You don't want to be flying at light speed with the top off anyway.
I have my roof on, off, on, off, half on, half off - in a different configuration almost every day in the warmer temps, and it's never leaked.
My other vehicle is a Full size lifted Expedition with the 5.4L Trition. It get's 12 mpg downhill with the wind behind you. This JKU is way more fun and reads an avg. of 19-20 mpg according to the speedo computer.
I actually appreciate the fact that it is a quiet vehicle. Compared to my Expy, it's a relief to be able to here your passenger or stereo over the exhaust. I have 2 kids 8 and 12 and they are crazy about it. The wife loves it.. I love it... Win win I say. + I think there are some pretty good dealer incentives on the 2011's right now. I know we saved around $6000 off the list price.

rics1997 As far as leaking, the only time mine ever leaked was when I left the top down. I blame Jeep for letting it rain during my fun.

rics1997 I have the 2 dr and have plenty of power but the 4 dr Unlimited has to pull a much heavier brick through the air. If your coming from a big V-8 pick-up, you will probably not like what you drive, especially the 4dr. You will really have to want and love a Jeep. Now if your coming from a small truck, then you probably won't care as much.

Saying that, the 3.8 in the JK isn't that bad. The fact is that Jeep did not pair it very well with the correct gearing. If you really want a Jeep but want more power, you can either get the 2012 which has a little more power, not much but enough to notice and better throttle response. But on the other hand the 2011 can be caught up to speed fairly easy with correct gearing and a tuner when it comes out soon. The correct gearing makes a huge difference.

Whoa there Sparky..... they don't all have leaks (mine doesn't) and if geared properly..... acceleration is more than adequate

If by boost you mean a totally new engine with 40% more HP, yes they did. I've test driven both and the 2012 is great on power. The 2011 was like driving uphill through molasses in the snow by comparison.

chopperbobby Went from a crew cab to unlimited. Next to the room I love the h jeep. Don't miss the I'm moving call from friends either.

I liked the truck a lot. The jeep Is just plain fun. Take doors and top off the best. Now just have to get wife use to it. She does nit like topless or doorless.

Do miss the power of the truck. But not much. Jar get use to different driving style.

Question about Stock 2011 Wrangler Sport..

Does anyone know how many miles per house the stock wrangler sport bumpers can handle in impact?

Bigdog76 I have owned many vehicles over time and the jeep is my favorite. I tried trucks, full sizes and mid. I lowered them. I air bagged them. I ran god rods and 5.0 mustangs. Cameras and vettes. I aleYa come back to jeep. I am a jeep person. I live in New Orleans and I told myself that I will be damned if I get stuck again after a hurricane. I can't think of an auto that can be customized so many different ways( yes even slammed on air bags). I just want say from a former truck owner that do it! Get the jeep!

JeeperJake re: "Is there something I should know before diving in? "

be forewarned......Jeeps are addictive!!!

Robert_Stephens Being a long time Jeeper (43 years and counting), if I was just starting out, I'd get the Rubicon. This way, you start as a newb but the mod add on bug bites instantly thereafter and that way, your 90% there and can then add on the lift and winches, etc etc, and the stuff guys add to make it more trail worthy. Seldom does a guy get into this and backs out. Too addicting. I got bitten as a kid lookin' at the cool photos of my dad in his 1944 MB Jeep on the island of Saipan in WW2 and that bit me bad. Still does.

Just another angle to it all.

Best to you and can't wait to see what you get.

gregh I got out of a Dodge Ram 1500 and into the 2011 Sahara and have not thought about the truck since! Best move I've made (as far as vehicles go) in a long time. However, Rick is right about the mods. I added a light bar on the front with three lights for getting in and out of hunting areas. Then I added two windshield mounted lights. My latest mod came in the form of rims. Next is Tires and ?????????????!!

roxbury29 I sold my 2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Level 2 truck, had for 4 years.. I have my first jeep
4dr S unlimited sport. so far 4 months, love it!.. its a little different, more fun to drive. Overall only thing I miss is thowing things in the bed of the truck, other tan that - I like it much better than my truck. 4dr has more room in the back seat

richie894 I have had my Sport about 3 weeks. I love it although it does lack acceleration as you pointed out. IMO the Sport model is best bang for the buck, unless you are going do some serious off-roading and rock crawling.

I got the 2 door. Although I love the look, I kinda wish I got a 4 door in hindsight. Much more practical for carrying passengers, dog etc.

I have always just had regular cars before, this is the first vehicle that I have customized. As others said be prepared to spend extra $$$ on mods. In the short time I have had it, I have already added a new front bumper with winch and new rims and tires. I plan on buying the Superchips when it is released for the 2011 in a month or two. Supposedly the tuning settings help with the acceleration for the freeways.

rics1997 Loss of spendable cash is about the only thing, lol. Once you get and and get the mod bug you can't stop yourself. What can I get for my Jeep next.

But then to the fun is well worth it especially with the top down and on the trail.

913 I got rid of a Ridgeline for my 2011 JKU Sport with hardtop rigt before Turkey Day. I had the front panels off the first day I had the jeep and a number of times since then, we had a few good rain spells and my jeep is dry as can be inside. I was concerned about leaks but haven't had an issue so far. It has enough room for two car seats and I can still carry tools and parts in the back. The JKU isn't a truck, but it's damn close and a helluva lot more fun!

Macnerd Welcome! Check the forum on leaks. If youre good with that you'll love it!!

JoFoJeepin I switched from a small pickup (Ford ranger 5sp) to a JKU 6sp. The only downside I've seen so far is that I'm not as popular as I used to be. i.e.: No one has called and asked me to help them move in over a month. But I expect things to pickup when hiking season hits again in the spring and everyone wants to head up to the North Georgia mountains with the top down :-D

2011 Wrangler Unlimited Sport Questions

I currently have a pickup truck. I am thinking of selling it and getting the 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. Having never owned a jeep, I just wanted to know what, if anything, I should be forewarned about before buying one.

I drove one yesterday. Other than the sub-par acceleration, it does not seem much different than my truck. It seems much more fun, not nearly as loud (crazy right?) and nice on the inside. Is there something I should know before diving in?

I obviously can't get the full feel of the vehicle on 2, comparably short, test drives.
