I've also called AAA when in other people's cars.
I used to be an EMT. Where I was stationed (15 years ago), we would go to the drive in theater on Saturday nights.
We were in a spare ambulance one weekend because ours was being worked on. Sure enough, we got a call in the middle of a movie and the van wouldn't start! So my partner and I were starting to freak out because we weren't supposed to be at the drive in. So I notified dispatch that the rig wouldn't start. We had AAA, so I gave them the address across the street at the donut shop. I met him there on foot, he jump started the rig for us and was nice enough not to report our real address.
I've also used a few times in other people's cars. I was at a rock concert with a friend. We were both drinking, he locked the keys in his car.

|tomkaren||AAA can be fine but I have found that it is regional. AAA in one place will be different then AAA in another. One placeI found it only covered one and only one vehicle. In another area it covered whatever I drove. Make sure you know what you are getting. I ended up with Allstate Motor Club which was all around a better deal.|

Didn't think you could have an AAA membership unless you drove a Buick!?!
After looking at some of the post above an AA membership might be more appropriate. Just saying.

I use AAA when i get stranded on road which is rare and i have a Jeepin buddy when i get stuck off road.
The only time i have used AAA is when i had death wobble and had it towed to the 4x4 shop.

|SRPs 2012||AAA Plus. Member for decades. Discounts at various stores, jump starts, tire changes, tows for myself and friends. Once got stuck way up high on a side road and not of any major road. Could not turn around and cliff on one side. Called AAA and described the situation. They offered to send a crane out to get me down. Was able to get my friend's husband to get the truck down. After that offer, AAA all the way for me.|

We have the family AAA plan and have had for years. Some years we use it others we don't but it's nice to have.
Also nice that they will come and fix a flat. With 37s my wife simply cannot get the spare off the tire carrier.

AAA Positives: Discounts at many places including NAPA!!! Plus all that towing stuff.
AAA Negatives: You have to be within winching distance of a paved/named road... found that out the hard way. Make sure you specify what you need when calling for a tow. They have sent 2 wheel lifts for my jeep () and the smallest flat bed for my truck that nearly lifted its front wheels of the ground when they where sliding the bed back onto the wrecker.
Other than those two items I couldn't be happier with AAA.

|bigjerm646||Great discounts, great service. Def worth it. If you ever need a tow you paid for your membership right there. Plus all the discounts you get, auto services, movie tickets, trip services, etc. Awesome.|

I used to have AAA when I was a bit younger and my vehicles were a lot less reliable. It sure did come in useful, several+ jumps and a tow or 2.
I've actually been thinking about it again. I do have roadside with my insurance however it just follows the car.....not the driver.
