|JDGROVER||i am 17 as well and i have dual 12s and i don't regret it, they sound good and i would buy them again. i am not trying to start any fights but for the people who had the first couple posts, its his jeep and he can do as he wants. the one thing i hate is when people talk about mall crawlers, my jeep looks like one with 4 inches of lift and 33s but thats just because i keep it clean so it looks nice. i wheel all the time and make trips to the pine barrens and other parks, so just because a jeep looks like a mall crawler doesn't mean it is. that being said we are all part of the jeep family and we drive jeeps because we understand. i for one understand that you have to learn from your own from your own mistakes and not other peoples.|

|Tjkindaguy||Im 16 to. My dad always had the baddest cars in highschool. 72 monte carlo. 69 camaro. 69 mustang. A corvette and a boss mustang.2 jeep wranglers Dont know where all that went cuz now he drives a 02 f150 lol ( guess he got married and dropped all that dough on my mom). My point being he knows what its like to want the baddest car out there. So when i went to him and asked to put a system in my jeep he said ok after some nagging. I put 1 8 in. Sub in the back in my insta trunk along with my 600 watt amp. Put 4x8 (i think) in my dash. And 6 1/2 in my sound bar. It sounds good to me. Not to loud or obnoxious. You can feel it hit ok. But. Everyone says i have the baddest jeep in the school. So im pleased. And pretty much theft proof. But. As the guy stated earlier. If they want it. They can get it. But good luck dude. Dont listen to all these old guys. Were young and invincible!!! Haha. Just kidding. Not that dumb.|

All of it is speaking from my personal experience, man...
Hell, i'm still young at 25 but it took a lot of trial and error to get here haha
I had a super nice $3,000 dollar system in the back of my blazer when i was 16 when i thought it was the "cool" thing to have haha...it was of course stolen in my driveway one night. Shattered window and everything. Those things bring a lot of unwanted attention, especially when you're young and going to school.
I luckily got it back because they were caught with it but that isn't the case 99% of the time.
Another example, i was at a gas station talking to a friend of mine and decided to just throw the blazer in reverse and pull into another space so i could leave with him and have my blazer out of the front of the shop...backed right into another vehicle.
Its just stupid things that happen...i've had someone stop in the middle of the road because they missed a house they were looking for and throw it into reverse and plow right into me (never in the jeep, but still).
Some things can be your fault where others wont, but still...the saying holds true that "shit happens"
Spend your money on somethin else instead of goin for the sound system...you can get some really nice sounding speakers that nobody will waste the time to steal vs an easily jacked sub box with mounted amp and subs. Plus, if you start getting into the wheeling scene...that'll eat up all of your spare cash as well as all of your everyday living cash (such as your food budget which has happened to me many times haha) with lifts, tires, bumpers, axles, gears, maintenance, etc.

You do make a lot of sense. Thanks for this post opened my eyes haha. And as far as the grammar... Well never have cared for it and never will. Ill talk how I want to haha. But as far as your post I learned from it. Thanks

You're young, simple as that. I grew up on a farm as well and used to think the same thing that just because i drove since i was 12 i was going to be amazing and be the best driver on the road. Definitely not true and its the same in your situation.
I'm not gonna say you need to learn to drive but I'd bet money on you wrecking the jeep within the next year or so...whether its you messing around or something not entirely your fault.
Plus, you're going to be going to school for the next considerable amount of time and you'll definitely have your stereo stolen by the time you graduate. Whether they slit the soft top (didnt read if you had one or not) or if they just shatter out the window. If they want it they'll take it.
Just do as some of the others have said...get a decent set to replace the stock or even do some 6x9's...no need to get some "look at me" bass setup that'll be stolen.
Oh...and pay attention in your english classes over the next couple years, grammar and structure come in very handy

When i was in high school i had the best sound system of anyone is my grade.
This is my sub. its a sub/amp combo and comes in a box. cant beat the price even if you make it on your own. Its not exactly name brand...but it hits hard. Will handle all the dance music and dubstep you want. Dont worry about a second woofer. 1 10" is fine
Vertically Driven Products 7957502A - VDP Subwoofer Kit for 97-02 Jeep® Wrangler TJ - Quadratec
I also have the overhead 6 speaker sound bar
Vertically Driven Products 792501 - VDP Six Speaker Overhead Soundbar in Textured Black for 87-02 Jeep® Wrangler YJ & TJ - Quadratec
Its not the clearest when you crank it, but if you managed to hook it up to its own amp, youd be golden.
To finish it off i have kickers in the dash, and a sony explode head unit.
In high school i put about $800 into my sound system alone. Money wasnt a problem, cause between work and scrappin metal i had the cash. But i ended up going to college in the city, and now I leave the jeep at home for fear of my system getting jacked...so think about it

|hooked422||whose jeep is it any way? I did the whole "thumping system" when I was you age. I can tell you, at least for me I got tired of it after a month. and plus I had to be carefull not to damage anything putting stuff in my truck. and plus I would think if you draw attention to yourself you might find your soft top slashed and stuff stolen. this is my opinion.|

|bubba doss||For the people who think I need to learn how to drive my jeep can f off. I have been driving my jeep since I was 14. Learned how to drive a 5 speed when I was 13. Yeah country boy with a lot of back roads around here to learn how. And I respect my daddy verry much just would enjoy some sound. Cause them 5.25 in the role bar is not much at all. If all your gone do is call me a kid and tell me I need more drivin experience than don't waste your time on posting on this thread.|
|11-15-2011 11:29 AM|
|StrangerWrangler||Tell him you wanna take the back seats out so all your friends wont be asking for rides cause its only a 2 seater an you can put your subs back there..i got 2 15" 3800 watt DVC with a 6000 watt D class amp....she slams....but remember when installing a system the box is where all your sound is so...if you buy one of those behind the backseat snug fit box it won't sound as good as a box recommended for that speaker......save the money for car washes an go wheeling that way you can spray your jeep off before you take it bake to daddy|

I have two 12 Alpine Type E subwoofers in the back of mine. I built the box and made it so it could not be removed once its in and the door is locked. I did it when I was 19 and just got the Jeep in 2005, and I was told by many that two 12s wouldn't fit in a TJ. I have no trunk space at all, and now I do miss it. It does sound good, and does pound when the top is down. With that said, I do love it, but I keep the bass turned down and enjoy the music. Here are a few pics, I hope they work.
I would get the feel for driving first and not worry about the loud music. A single 8" and good speakers will sound good in a TJ.

|jameslee97206||If you really wan't it to smack hard. Get a mono block 1000 watt amp and 2 dual voice coil subs. Phoenix gold, JL audio and Audiobahn are good choices. When I bought my jeep it had an amp and sub in the back. The first thing I did was take it out.|

Im going to be real with you since it seems like youre pretty determined to get them.
The best subs for the best price are probably off craigslist, you can find everything you need there. Everything does add up though. A head unit can be anywhere from 50-500 depending on what you want. Subs can be 200 (minimum) with or without a box. Amp can be 150+ and the wiring kit can be around 100.
Thats around $500 for a decent set-up, you willing to pay that much?
The best option for you is to change out your stock speakers with some aftermarket ones. I went with Polks 5.5'' in the front and 6.5'' in the sound bar.
^^This thread should get you started. You can purchase plates from nalin mfg to retrofit 5.5'' speakers in the front instead of 4x6''

|KidRock171||Get a good set of 6.5" speakers for your soundbar and 5.25" for the dash. This + one 12" sub and a good amp is about all the juice your gonna get out of a wrangler. They're just not acoustic masterpieces. I recommend Rockford fosgate all around. Get their shallow mount sub and it wil save you about half your trunk space. BUT it will get stolen in less than 12 months. Especially if you have a soft top. But I found it a very worthy upgrade. As for excuses? Jeep sound systems suck D!ck. Oh. And get a pioneer headunit, cheapest one you can find. Build your own sub box out of MDF wood. Should be less than 500$ total.|

I won't knock subs as I've had them in various vehicles. That being said a Jeep is not a good vehicle for this application as you're just asking to have it stolen.
If you must, get a powered sub. Easier to install and will take up much less room.

|Rubicondon53||I'm a professional driver.. You're dads right,,, forget about blasting music, cell phone etc,, anything that distracts you from the machine,, well ,, let's just say you'd be headed for the stat sheets.. Get a few years of driving experience, then worry about loud music,,, As a pro, I have to look out for way too many lousy drivers every day. Subwoofers, cell phones, only add to your distraction,, of all the things you do in life, driving is by far the most important,, it Is a matter of life and death..|
