lucky4075 Forgot to mention, I got the flowmaster off of amazon.com for very reasonable

lucky4075 I've got stock piping with a flowmaster super 40 and stock tailpipe and I love the way it sounds. Once it's broken in it really has a nice tone to it. It's got a really mean rumble at idle and it's got that nice growl when you step on it. I've got the 4.0 too by the way- definitely doesn't sound like a fart can!

solman I agree, no need for an entire system. I have a $70 flomaster with stock piping and I love the way it sounds.

Jerry Bransford There is no need to spend big $$$ for a high $$$ muffler or catback like from Banks, Flowmaster, etc. to get a little louder/deeper sound. The catalogs have blinded some of the younger Jeepers to that fact, that is for sure.

My Jeep required the muffler be replaced and the pipe rerouted after installing a long-arm suspension and an inexpensive Thrush muffler did the trick. The first Thrush they installed was too loud but the second Thrush, which was a tad bigger, was just right. Though that was 7-8 years ago, the whole job only cost me $85 for both the muffler and labor from my small local independent muffler shop. Do NOT go to a chain muffler shop like Midas who will probably charge you $500 to do the same thing.

I can't figure out why some insist on buying expensive cat-back systems when all they need is a different muffler and perhaps a fancy chrome or stainless exhaust tip.

joeinajeep On my 2000:

Stainless steel head pipe: $185 at rock auto.
Stainless steel tailpipe with tip: $101 at 4wheelparts.

Plus a $30 cherry bomb, a $10 length of straight pipe, and some exhaust clamps.

No muffler shop required.
11-18-2011 12:36 PM
Dextreme I used to straight pipe it into a dual resonator tip. Usually the muffler shop would charge me about $120 in labor (pipe, cuts and 3 welds) plus the cost of the tip.

jeff316 I've got a cat and a magma flow bullet style muffler with a truck tip, everybody seems to love it and it sounds quite unique! It's not too loud but it's not quiet either, IMO it's perfect!
