Tom125 Mine doesn't have delay (SE) But the wifes Sport does.

TJWenatchee This is the description of the Wiper Delay and it's use from the Multicontrol lever. 97's really did come with a delay. It may have been an option however. SM dosn't specify:

˛ Intermittent Wipe Mode - The control stalk of
the right multi-function switch has an intermittent
wipe position, and the control knob has several minor
detent positions which will each cause the wiper system
to operate at different delay intervals between
complete wipe cycles. The internal circuitry of the
right multi-function switch provides the intermittent
wipe mode and adjustable delay intervals between
wipe cycles of about one second to about fifteen seconds

The above is from the Chrysler Service Manual for 97 TJ Page 8R-3 describing operating modes for the front wipers.

TJWenatchee This might be another case of having a Jeep that was built midyear (7/11/97, I have run onto some 98 parts incorporated into it from time to time.. According to data sheet for my 97 TJ Sport it came with Variable speed wipers with wiper delays (2 to 15 seconds). They are controlled from the multifunction lever just like normal wipers. Now, mine was made for the Canadian market so maybe that makes a difference as well. I am just glad I have them.

Tom125 I fixed mine today by replacing the motor and linkage. 97 sport with delay also. Mine was easier to diagnose because it would not return to (home) the bottom when they were switched off. I found the motor and linkage at a junk yard for $50. All is good now.

Wesboy The arm you describe is the correct intermittent controller.

Could have been fitted later (like I did to mine).

It's impossible to connect it up wrong. It's just one big plug connecting to another big plug.

Sorry, thought maybe you couldn't find it because it wasn't there

Back to square one.

mike3770 That's weird cause my 97 isn't like that it has 3 settings and a knob at the end to speed or slow down the wipers when its on the lowest setting. Could it be someone put that arm on and never hooked it up for it?

Wesboy AFAIK the 97's didn't have intermittent wipers.
This is the wiper controller I pulled from my '97.
If the end of the stalk looks like this, you do not have intermittent wipers.

The good news is swapping in a controller from a later model (with intermittent function) is a piece of cake. Plugs straight into existing harness.

I got mine from here JEEP Cherokee or Wrangler WINDSHIELD WIPER DELAY 1997 TO 2006

TJeepman Sounds like the switch needs to be cleaned or replaced. There are threads regarding removal of the multi-function switch (wiper switch is attached to it) on here. What year is your Jeep?

Not likely a relay problem but note that you can always swap your relays around to find out if a relay is acting up, like swap horn relay for one of the wiper relays. Had a problem with wipers on a van once, they wouldn't shut off. A horn relay swap fixed that temporarily until I got a new relay.

intermediate wipers dont work

So ever since I bought my tj my intermediate wipers don't work at all just low and high. Is it the module or maybe the motor?
