nicolas-eric i have the 4spd auto tranny. itīs 4th gear is 0.69:1 and not 1:1 like the old 3spd auto tranny.
4.56 is to long for 37s with my tranny.

4.56 would be fine if you have a 4.0L. I get by with 3.73 and a 4 banger pushing 33" and an auto tranny. but that D30 would probably break at some point. you could wheel it till it broke...

nicolas-eric 37s? i only have 4.56 gears and a D30 front axle...
i needed to install 2" BS extensions to avoid tire rubbing. with 37s i had to extend them much more...

I would go 37's with that. and larger with 9" sus. Although I would kick the bl for 4.5" springs

1BLKJP To be perfectly honest with you I don't know which shocks would give you a perfect on road ride. I didn't buy shocks for that reason. I bought silly long travel shocks and really don't care how they ride on the road.

Previously I had Rancho 9000 adjustables when I had the Toys By Troy suspension in my rig. I really did like those shocks and would recommend them again to anyone that spends a lot of time on the street. You'll just want to talk to someone and tell them the lift amount you have/will have to determine the correct model number for your application.

nicolas-eric the shops here in germany are to expensive. the parts cost +50% more than ordering them directly in the US.
p.e. my OME suspension from cost 600 euros (850$) inkl. all taxes and shipping. here in our german jeep stores it costs 1100 euros (1550$).

which shocks would you install with teh 5.5" R.K. LA suspension for a perfect on road ride?

btw. itīs already 4.20 a.a. on the first day in 2008 here...

my plans are to go 1-2" bigger than now. for that the RK 5.5" LA suspension would be perfect.

which shocks do you have on your rig? and is there an exhaust that fits with the LA lift? or do i have to build something by myself?

good news! my father told me that he will buy me the SYE and CV driveshaft when i have enough money for the suspension.
i think i should take him with me sometimes i go wheeling. perhaps he finds some other things that could be modified...

1BLKJP Nicolas, I run a version of the RK 5.5" X-Factor. There are plenty of pics around here of my jeep in action. I honestly think it's the beefiest, cost effective, well designed Long Arm setup on the market for the TJ.

yes you will need to modify your exhaust.

Sye will be a must with that much lift.

5.5 will be fine. You could even go down to a 1" BL.

If your long range plans for your TJ include that much lift then you are going to be much happier spending the money on a LA system.

I thought of OME long travel for the 4" but they are not long enough unless you do the bar pin eliminator

nicolas-eric thank jack, a new buddyīs dad works at the german TUEV (german car inspection authority). thatīs why i already have 4.5" lift and 35s...

a longarm suspension or anything else that has still an acceptable onroad handling won't be a poroblem for me in the future.

everything he does is legal, but he is one of only a handful of car-inspectors here they have a big knowledge about jeeps. all the others say NO to everything above 2" lift and 31s on a TJ.

if a longarm suspension is really that good i will save my money for it.

is the R.K. 5.5" LA suspension a good choice? should i better go with the R.K. 7" LA suspension? thatīs only a few $$$ more expensive.
or is 7" lift + 2" BL too much for 35s? i don't want bigger tires becuse new axles are too expensive for me and i just installed gears and lockers.

what all do i need for such a R.K longarm suspension?
SYE & CV driveshaft?
another exhaust (which one will be ok for me)?
some other things?

which shocks do you recommend for a good on road handling?

i wish you all a happy new exctly 1 hour we have 2008 over here...

mr4x4 I had the adjustable short arms it flexed pretty good on road handling was good but I am so glad I put on the long arms the on road ride and handling is so much better you can get a little more flex with the long arm but you have to set it up right just like the short arm set up properly it will ride good and flex good
but I didnt think going to a long arm would improve my ride like it did

silvergoat I run a short arm with 4.5" springs and it handles and drives great on the road. If a short arm is set up correctly it will amaze you at how well it performs, but most people dont take the time to set it up right. I wheel with alot of guys with long arm kits and have no problem keeping up with them so far. 1BLKJP makes a good point in that your wheelbase will stay where it should be without shrinking as your suspension works and that is one nice things about the longarm kits.

1BLKJP A long arm suspension helps you both on and off road. It put your control arm geometry a lot closer to stock than having a short arm setup with bigger springs. Off road it will also also your suspension to articulate without squeezing the wheel base.

However Nicolas, you might want to verify that you can cut off your lower control arm mounts and install the new stuff based on your governments laws before you start savings for something that will get you in trouble.

4point The people I've talked to about their LA kits all told me their road handling improved. They were runninig the RE & RK kits.

i use my TJ often of the road but itīs also my daily driver, thatīs why the on road ride is very important to me.

tobycat1 both will flex depending on the brand. my 4" shortarm flexes almost too much, I almost loose traction.

Longarm vs. Shortarm ???


my TJ has a 2.5" OME HD suspension with additional 2 spacers and the ride is ok for me.
but now i donīt know what to do. there are two options.

i could buy some adj. CAs and track bars to modify my suspension and to make it stronger.

i could wait some months and save some money for a longarm suspension like this one: rock krawler 5.5" LA suspension

is it worth the money to improve a 4.5" shortarm suspension? or is it better to go with longarms? what would you do?

is the on road ride with such a longarm suspension still good?
how is it off the road? does it flex much better?

btw. my suspension doesnīt flex very good:
