Dianeakamommy It was not in my JEEP. It was a 02 mitsubishi lancer. I plan on going down the the JEEP place down the street and talking to him today too. Plus I would love to do some shopping for myself.

was this accident in your jeep? i only ask because i feel like my seatbelts will lock up for anything! i know they kept my passengers in their seats when i flipped my jeep on its side, and even if im just braking from like 30-20 i can feel them tightening. i feel like the wranglers seatbelts are very safe.

of course, im still going to add a 5 point one day, just cuz of the awesomeness

daggo66 Double check the car seat laws in your area. Many of them have changed and are much more stringent. How I managed to survive being a toddler in the 60's is beyond me.

AntiTrust actually most 5-points are street legal... you need to buy from a real dealer and they will have a tag on them letting your know.

A 5 point harness is just that: 5 straps. If someone needs to get you out, they have to cut 4 of them. I would probably go with just a booster seat and a regular seatbelt
Most people wear just the lapbelt portion of a five-point harness anyway. I can't quite imagine how this works with whatever you have for your child. I guess he's in the middle of the back seat. You must have a carful (Jeepful?). Do you have a 3rd row seat?

As for cutting you out, they do that for regular seatbelts because they latch on the side where the buckle is hard to get to. With a 5-pt harness, you (or your rescuer) just flip the lever right in the middle of your lap and you are free. There are probably some EMT folks on this list somewhere - have you ever had to cut anybody out of a harness?

jku-er I was looking for a harness for my third row install and found that most 5pt harnesses are not legal for street use (no DOT approval)

I've found schroth makes ones that are legal but doesn't seem to work on my seats. For the second row you might get it to work.

Good luck.

Corbeau and Mastercraft both make great harness systems. However, MOST are designed for use with attachments (usually a bar behind the front seat, or an anchor on the B-pillar).

Here's a link to each company. Quadratec sells products from both companies, including harnesses, but there stuff is geared more towards those who also buy specialized replacement seats.

I bet if you called them, somebody could steer you toward something that'd keep your munchkin safe when you're cruising sans hood. Can't hurt to try.

Corbeau: Harness Belts

MasterCraft Safety®: Restraint Systems / Seat Belt Systems

Good luck!
