|PDXJeeper||Cam chains are what I use for snow and off road use. I also install a pair of bungees to be safe, nobody likes a steel weed whacker in their wheel well.|

|Randy H||When I bought my 2012 Wrangler Sport Unlimited, the paperwork to be signed included one that said the warranty would be voided if I used chains... cables were ok, chains not... Here in CA most of the time 4 wheel drive and mud and snow tires are allowed without chains, but they can require chains... I will end up with at least an axle worth just in case... but, also, while 4 wheel drive will give you added go, it doesn't increase braking... and ice can be nasty...|

|Catron||Get the chain chains like the big trucks run you can replace the cross sections when they wear. I burn through a few sets a year on my work truck....|

The best way to put them on is before it snows.
Trying to unstall them during a storm is not a fun project.

I've used a ton of different chains, and even was a chain installer in college. The best chains are the ones that looks like these.
DIAMOND STYLE TRUCK TIRE CHAINS
They install super fast and grip well. I cant comment on how long they last with continuous use, but they seem to be build well.
Cable chains have a smoother ride, and easy install compared to regular style chains, but they suck for anything more than getting past a chain checkpoint. They seem to fall apart a lot.
I use heavy duty V bar chains on my motorhome that cover both of the dually tires.
If I was going to install them in a semi permanent fashion I would use these. For occasional use I'm going to use the diamond quick fit because they install in 1-2 minutes per tire with no crawling to the backside of the tire.

|ALASKA99TJ||the hard part is the heater is broken, but i love her so i dont care about a little cold weather 9 months out of the year. i just cant justify 600 bucks to fix the heater, as i just dont want to tear the dash out to get to the heater core.|

|Buddy B||Chain chains all the way, I lived in Carson City Nevada at the time of one of the worst snow storms in years, at the time I had a rwd GMC S15, damn near couldn't get stuck with the chain chains. Only problem was they didn't hold up to more than the occasional pavement contact. Not hard to install really, lay them out and drive onto them. Attach and done....|

Buddy of mine, who lives in the U.P. of Michigan swears by chain chains, all the way.

anybody have any real experience using tire chains? i live in alaska and chains are a fact of life and well i cant go with out chains, been borrowing but am ready to buy. i like the square pewags, any input on other brands? btw need to be heavy duty as used off-road.
