I sent my Vin to the Hurst Jeepster people. I have learned it is 1 of 71 known to exist. How many were made is really unknown. Supposed to be 500 but all documents say 100. With 71 accounted for I think more than 100 were built.
I have decided to not cut it up. I will trade it for something I can build or sell. I have four people interested. I'll keep you all up to speed.
I have learned a lot about Jeepsters from the JCCA guys. Good bunch of people on that forum.

Yes but Ive seen plenty of jeep groups on the trail I would not have been happy to tow 1700 miles to meet!! Drinking on the trail is the main thing Ive seen too much.

It is true as you were told in previous posts above, these things are a pain in the rear to work with. Basically the frame is narrow all the way back where a cj etc the frame widens after the motor. This narrow frame makes it a bear to run exhaust, I had to notch my frame and floor to fit a Atlas and Im in the process now of notching it further to rotate it up flatter as well as doing the floor again.
The tub is narrow inside do to the configuration of the doors vs a cj. I have 6 inches between my 20 inch wide seats so no room for any aftermarket console at all. the steering column goes thru the floor at a bad angle so your foot room limited.
I put in a caddy tilt tele column and moved the bottom of it up towards the fire wall 8 inches so so I could put in a wider brake pedal and reach it with either foot easily.
The dash area you have to work with is small, if I had it to do over I would move my dash back 4-5 inches when I had it cut out for the cage installation.
The jeepster oem fenders nose etc make it very very challenging to put in a v-8. I have the long cj nose and still am room challenged with a 304. I am in the process off cutting the back of the headlight buckets so I can move the radiator fwd and get 5 inches between it and the water pump so I can fit a good electric fan.. Ill have to run the shallower led headlights which are spendy!
The plus's to a built jeepster like mine are towing it on a open trailer from Iowa to the Rubicon and Moab etc. People are constantly taking pics of it! I think its the mostly tough look of black and camo not really sure. But I cant stop and get gas without people taking pics most times.
I enjoy wheeling something different, there is a small group of guys like me on JCCA who wheel regularly and Ive met them at the Rubicon and Moab. If I had a tj or cj not sure I would have found as good a group of guys.

Nick, nice job taking outside opinions without being defensive. I was really worried you would take advice as criticism, seems like you have a great attitude.
Do whatever makes you happy, but you have money on the table for sure with that thing. May take a month or so to get a buyer, but someone will gladly take it off your hands if you decide not to restore it.

I'm about two years into what I'm estimating to be a five year complete restoration. This is actually my third one. The other two I bought were just too far gone (rusty) and ended up being parts jeeps.
Here it is when I drugged it home from NC. Very rough, complete, with original bill of sale, titled in the original owners name.
Sheet metal repairs finished. That took about a year.
Currently I have the body removed to work on the frame and drive train.
Mine will be pretty much stock. Still have not totally decided if I'm keeping the stock motor and trans. If I go with a more modern motor it will probably be a 4.3 / 700R4.
There are several of these hurst projects going on over on the JCCA. One guys just got published in JP (January 2012).
Seriously, I hope you consider bringing back to stock. These are exceedingly rare. Your really lucky to find one in such good condition.

Either restore or sell and buy another Jeepster.
I can.imagine a collector now, driving that on a sunday, and down to the bantam Jeep heritage festival!
