daddyjeep I would definately upgrade before I spent that kind of money on the D35. As wannabe said, the ford 8.8 is a good swap. Find one at a local salvage yard for a few hundred bucks, regear to match the front, and throw it in.

Odd is he Weld the spiders shut on thurdy five for now..... thats what i have done, lots of fun on loose ground, or wet pavement.

JIMMY93YJ i thought 1400 was pretty steep... thanks alot for the help, i'm going to shop around a bit more then, find something more reasonable.

whitebuffalo 400 for labor isnt bad, but 1000 for parts is kinda high unless hes replacing the housing also. gears and install kit should be in the 250 range which will include all bearings. if the carrier is messed up, you can get a full detroit for ~500......so, yes, it sounds high.

you could upgrade to a stronger axle for cheaper and keep it form happening again. theres no way id put $1400 in a dana 35, but thats just me.

rear differential - am i getting ripped off?

i really messed up my rear differential in the dessert this weekend. i took it to ProGear for a free diagnostic, and the guy just called me back and said the entire thing needs to be replaced. he said the spider gears are what gave, and the bits and pieces got into everything (ie bearings etc...) plus my axle was quite worn to begin with. he priced me at $1400 ($400 labor, $1000 for the parts) and i'm pretty shocked. isnt that way too high? i'm a little skeptic to go the route of used parts, since they will mostly likely be well worn already. how much should i really be expecting this job to cost, and is it that big of a deal to replace with used parts?

(i'm really kicking myself for this one...)
