Steady It is now lol... it's also available in just about everything mopar offers (rolls eyes) I'm pretty sure the 3.8 was taken from the caravan... But that's just what I've read in JP magazine so what do I know being a "newb" and all...

Steady Ive owned my 2012 rubicon unlimited for about 14 months now and i love it. Ive put it through my own "i bought it to use it" testing and its surprised me and my fellow offroad buddies in stock form. Ive had it rock crawling and hill climbing here in AZ, in the sand dunes in glamis cali, mudding and drag racing in ohio, and with it about to turn 33k miles needless to say alot of road time... and there is nothing that has let me down yet.
But yeah there is huge improvements with the '12 over the prior 07-11 jk's starting with the 3.6ltr v6 compaired to the 3.8ltr minvan engine... the 3.8 has about 200hp and gets like 15/19 mpg, where as the 3.6 gets 285hp and label says 19/21 but ive got 25mpg in 6th gear, cruise set at 55mph top and doors on which is impressive for the areodynamics of a brick... plus its a aluminum block and i assume the 3.8 is not, which will help with handeling and brakeing just to name a few. Its very fun to drive, feels and handels like a sports car on the road, the 3.6 really wakes up after 3000rpm's with the VVT. cant wait to do some simple mods like a performance exhaust and intake, should easily be around 310-330hp and sound badass lol.
About the only other thing i really like and noticed is different is the interior styling and quality of materials used compaired to the prior years. it just feels more soild and higher quality of materials used for the dash and componets compaired to the cheap plastics and such used in the earlier JK's...
I base these judgements on my dad owning a 2009 sahara 2dr, granted the offroad capabilitys wouldnt even compair, but the performance and interior is night and day, and he agrees with me, even though he hates to admit that his 25 year old son has the better jeep lol.
The only thing i dislike besides the payment is the belly will hang up on rocks and the top of ruts, luckily there is stock skid plates, but if you pick your line wisely you can usually get through it, but this will easily be fixed when i do a teraflex long arm and tires possibly as soon as this summer.

seanpholman Here is my review of the '12 (I have been in charge of building up our 'Con Artist Unlimited since '07, and I am the editor of the JK Garage magazine, so I know JKs pretty well).

That is EXACTLY what I'm looking at. I assumed that was the magazine he was referring to since that issue arrived the same day as his post. Now, reading the actual words, I see he was referring to that other "rag". (jk, I subscribe to that one as well) My whole point was to poke fun at Hildweller, who traded his JK for a PW.

Considering I wrote the stories in Four Wheeler, I am pretty sure I know what I am talking about. If the Wrangler beat out the Power Wagon in a two truck test, you are not looking at Four Wheeler, but rather Petersen's 4Wheel & Offroad.

Precisely!
That was a huge, HUGE increase in power. To get that kind of increase AND an extra 2mpgs... is nothing but impressive engineering.

Sure the net MPG increase is about 1 average. When you take into account that they increased power by 40% and still managed to provide slightly increased MPG I think that's maybe a better way to look at it.

Incorrect. The Wrangler won Four Wheeler of the Year and the Power Wagon won Four Wheeler Pickup Truck of the Year. The Wrangler, did however, beat out the Power Wagon in Petersen's 4WOR test.

And the fuel economy went up from 15/19 to 17/21 on the label. It is a big deal for the a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a barn.

AMangum I still can't understand why Chrysler is trumping about the "improved fuel efficiency" like they are. Sure 1 MPG better is technically an improvement, but so laughably small that it seems disingenuous to beat that drum like they are.

Kudos on the HP/torque improvements though. They are indeed worth bragging about.

The new 2012 Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon – the most capable production vehicle on the planet – has been named "Four Wheeler of the Year" by Four Wheeler magazine. The award is given annually by the editors of the opinion-leading off-road enthusiast magazine.
