I use a Larson 2/70 whip on the hood (pictured above) and it works great.

jeffk42 KM4GUC. Just getting started. I noticed that Firestik has a 2m antenna that would act as a direct replacement for the CB antenna currently mounted to my spare tire carrier. Thinking about removing the CB entirely and just using a handheld on the trail, and replacing it with a mobile 2m/70cm rig.

Does that sound like it would be a reasonable option, or am I missing some difficulty involved in that? I just got the license a couple of days ago and have no experience yet...

realfinkployd Decided to mount the antenna on the front hood with a Diamond NMO mount, works great.

Yeah, I have a cb antenna mounted there (not ideal, but it is top loaded and I only use it for group trail rides). I'm leaning to a front hood mount for my 2m.

dashaund Check out Teraflex CB antenna mount that mounts behind the taillight. Works great for me and others. Easy and clean. I have mine paired with an IC-2100H and a Hustler SF-2.

realfinkployd Finally mounting my IC2100 in my JKU. Anyone have any recommendations on a good antenna mount? I'm thinking something off the cowl on the drivers side or possibly that license plate mount I see advertised for CB antennas.

Ha, I got my Technician license after getting my first Jeep upon realizing that a 4W CB in really deep woods might be slightly insufficient compared to a 50W mobile. I had thought about getting my license back in the late 70s but never followed through until now. Next stop General this winter!

Zed KC3AUV here. I'm a general class operating a 2m rig in my jeep. Have it mounted in the driver footwell. Cb is in the passenger footwell. Cb goes to a firestik and ham goes to NMO mount on the passenger side of the hood.

Working on learning morse code so I can do more QRP out in the remote areas where I like to off-road.

bruuuuce AB0TL - I have been a ham since 1994, my wife is also in the hobby. I currently own and am the control operator for the 146.835 2m Repeater, formally also had the 444.400 repeater. For two years I owned and operated a small ham radio store here in SE Missouri where I sold antennas, coax, fittings, Ramsey Kits, Heil Microphones, Might Fine Junk (MFJ) and lots of Wouxon radios.

Right now in the Jeep I run and Icom Dual Band (2m/440) radio. Radio is under the driver seat, with control head under the HVAC controls and the Antenna on the 3rd break light.
