I agree, it does help but, they aren't bullet proof by, any means. I recently had a little carnage and when I pulled my front passenger side axle I had muddy water between my outer and inner seals. I kept them lubed and I was a little disappointed by the outer seal's performance.

Jerry Bransford Unless you're doing mud, I don't see the need for the greasable outer axle seal.

D30 Axle Have Outer Seals?

Sorry for my newbie ignorance... but I am replacing the front left axle on my TJ but just want to make sure of this - Is there supposed to be an outer axle seal here? Or is all that covers the hole seen in the pic here is that plastic cover on the axle? Thanks... you guys are great.
