I know this is an old thread but I just came across it.
It's not unlike the "Jeep Scene". Everyone on this forum is very passionate about Jeeps and think there is no other vehicle like it (same as craft beer to an enthusiast), but to an outsider some of this could appear to be a little overboard to if they don't have the same passion for Jeeps. Your statement about "hipster beer crowd" is true to a point. These are folks that kind of jumped on the bandwagon. But they are not unlike what people here describe as "Soccer Moms". They are certainly not the purists, but hell, there's room for everyone right?

This was my first Enjoy By beer. I've grown kind of tired of IPA's, but this was damn good. Super hoppy as to be expected for an Imperial, but not as bitter as you'd expect. Smooth drinker and you barely sensed the 9.4% ABV.

|dirtybiketrash||Just tried a case of City Brewing's LaCrosse Light Lager. It uses the original Old Style recipe, and is fully krausened. It is pretty good for a cheaper 30.|

I don't know what it's like where you all are, but around here the heady beer scene is starting to get a little annoying. I really like beer, be it a can of cold domestique (yellow beer, like bud or miller), a belgian farmhouse ale, or a slap in the face IPA. But there's an element of competition that's crept into things, as in: whoever's had the dankest looking, hardest to pronounce beer that no one has heard of so they can't be called out on it, wins. Even the name for the whole subject has morphed from "micro brew" to "craft beer." Craft beer sounds to me like it was engineered by marketers (which is lame, because it's supposed to conjure images of hippy craftsmen brewers in their Vermont or Portland, OR kitchen brewing beer "by hand.") Speaking of making things by hand, "craft beer" sounds very much like "hand made." Why is hand made better? Why is hand made soap or hand made candles better? (wouldn't that hurt anyway?). Some marketing guru for the small brewers association of america (which I just made up) decided that "craft" was better than the rather sterile term "micro," and presto, a whole new name is born. This exemplifies things for me right now: The hipster beer crowd around Boston/Cambridge is obsessed with this beer called "Heady Topper." It's definitely interesting beer, but I don't particularly like the taste. Announcing my lack of preference in a hipster bar around here would be the same as announcing that I'm an a**hole who hates good beer. Supposedly your not allowed to buy more than one 4 pack at a time (the 4 pack being another hallmark of the heady hipster beer scene), and that forced exclusivity seems to have created this aura of greatness around the beer. I think it's lame.
Anyway, I like beer a lot. I'm just getting a little tired of what's become The Beer Scene.

I posted this in another thread but its beer related so... Me n a few mates had a small idea that grew into a pretty large prank. We plumbed his whole house so every tap flowed cold beer. We hooked into the water main inlet so even the garden sprinklers were foaming cold ale then we set up a whole heap of hidden cams to catch him when he got home.

Costco has BUDWEISER, THE KING OF BEEEERS on sale. I was told by their store manager, that they were totally sold out of it, in less than one hour of the sale. He said they had about 150 cases on hand and now NONE.
WOW, this is one popular BREEEEEEEEEEEEW.........

|Miser||On a hot day, there is nothing that compares to a cold Coors light. It's mild smooth taste and flavor, just can't be beaten! A six pack after a hard days work, is very relaxing, with just the right amount of buzz!|

|Old Dogger||Instead of talking about BEER, we should be drinking our BREW..........Two six packs of Budweiser a day, takes all of your cares and pain away, just try it, because you will like it..............|

Sammy Octoberfest is awesome. Some of the styles in the sampler pack may not be for all tastes. The pumpkin one is real good.
I had a Yuengling Oktoberfest last night. I'd never seen it before but it was great!
I also had the Terrapin Pumpkinfest. Wow, probably the best pumpkin beer I've had. But I didn't expect anything less from them.

I used to be a budlight loyalist. Then had my eyes opened by a buddy to craft beer. Can't even drink bud/miller/coors now. Tastes like corn, rice, and crappy hops (what little bit is actually in there!).
Even yeungling tastes like water now to me!
