|Uranus||Just emailed a guy about a 8.8 with 3.73 and a posi for $250 but I still can't decide if I should got to 3.73 or 4.11|

|WickedVision||I used to tow a camping trailer with 3.07s and I dreaded hills on the highway. I installed 4.11s with truetracs in my stock axles. This seams to be the perfect ratio for me with 33s. If I geared any lower the rpms would be to high on the highway|

|Wheel2Work||Since you don't plan on going over 32" tires, I would stay with the 3.73 gears... You will end up with RPM's being way too high on daily drives if you go bigger with the 32RH transmission.|

I think with towing involved 4:56 would be the way to go
regear the rear means changing the diff carrier,ring and pinion plus new bearings,seals and shims
finding a used d35 with atlease 4:11's
probly cheaper to find a used better geared axle but as always with used....its used.You never know how it was treated or how long it will last.
I'd regear if it was affordable
also consider the price to have a shop to regear it,labor cost alot.
carrier is about $70
r&p about $200-$300 but you get the exact ratio you want
master re gear set is $110,all bearings and shims
then with either choice you make you still need to regear the front to match and if you dont match the front the same time as the rear you gotta pay more labor.
its cheaper to bring just the axle to the shop,not the whole Jeep

|Uranus||I would be looking for a used axle with a higher gear ratio. Another question would be what gears to look for. would 4.11 or 3.73 or higher?|

|MarkNog||Depending on what you can get cheaper, I would go with that because its not like you need to upgrade you axles for 31s, and if you were to go bigger in the future you would need to regear again so it wouldn't do much good to go with a heavier duty axle because you would be in this same situation when you went to change tire sizes.|

Looking to regear
I have a 97 4.0 auto with 2" lift on 31's with 3.07 gears. When I tow my small camping trailer and family up the grapevine (Steep freeway incline in CA) I can't even keep up with the big rigs. So I was thinking about re gearing or finding another axle with a better ratio since I have a open d35. I also average 14 mpg. I have only wheeled a few times and plan to do more in the future but don't plan on getting bigger that 32" tires.
So should I just re-gear the d35 and d30, or look for a axle swap and match the front to match it? or find a matching front later on and not put her in to 4wd for a while.
