that sounds like a great idea. if you get around to doing it maybe you could post up a quick run down on what you did for us.

1BLKJP HA, I still put my 35" spare on my stock spare tire carrier. It has managed to slightly bend the tailgate, but with my 1"BL the tire sits right on the bumper so it doesn't bounce around a lot. Plus I have another tailgate that I am going to make into a fold down CJ style when I get around to it.

revreed Thanks for your help! I mounted it today the only issue was that I had to let the air down to about 25 lbs. to pull it all the way up with out putting too much pressure on the door. It put some pressure on the third brake light but appears to be OK.

bluvikng Very good point, Bluesman!!!!!!!

Bluesman Many of the issues that result in a damaged tailgate come from after market rims that do not make contact with the rubber tire stops. I have a 31x10.5 spare on an aftermarket rim, and had to add spacers in the mounts to make good contact. This includes the mount that is connected to the body at the bottom.

Made my mounts from rubber mallets cut in half, some use hockey pucks.

bluvikng Welcome to the WF.........just remember that a Rubicon stock tire is a 31" tire, so I would say that it has to be tough enough to hold that size of tire.

WranglerHawg I've heard that you can go up to a 32, a guy that lived down the street from me put a 33 on for his spare, and his back door almost ripped off, it bent the crap out of the metal. But from what i've heard, 32s are fine, so a 31 should be no problem.

Wr@ngler00 I have a 31/1050/15 mounted on my jeep with no issues. And it doesn't block the brake light.

99 AZSahara I have the same jeep in white and I have a 32*11.50 BFG mounted on my stock rear. It holds it fine and has for five years. I don't go too extreme but have jumped it about 4 feet and no problem. It does hinder the rear brake light a little. Hope this helps. Take care
