My other option was the Alpine with the Liquid Display but I got this one cheap. I get all my speakers this Tuesday and will install them and I get my Head unit 1MAY. I am totally excited. I was even checking out the Punch PBR 300X4 to run my Polks. That amp is small and it fits behind the radio so it is a no brainer. After I hear it all together, I will make my decision on the amp.

Z-TJ I have an alpine and it works great. It's not marine and it has seen a lot of rain with the top off with no problems.

Nice setup.

Jma20a there are lots of great quality stuff these days. its just no longer the big name brands, its the smaller companies that spend the time to make the products top notch.

Jaydogg25 being in car audio for over 16years. I personally dont like sony they havent made anything quallity in well over 10 years probably more twards 15y till you fine anything from sony worthy of their name. esp explode line thats pure junk. sad but way it is.. bad thing is ppl perfer to buy cheap instead of quallity so industry as a whole has changed that way... not a quality industry anymore been that way for 10y plus. wish it was back in early 90's a LOT of great quallity equipment. stuff now a days is a joke.

i have a jvc unit in my jeep. just got it a month ago bc was cheap for all features it has. bang for buck does well. bluetooth, dual usb (one for bluetooth) pandora radio ready ( bluetooth & phone), 3 rca outputs, HPF & LPF, sub controls. color changing display, you can set it to what you like. so far been working good for me. ~$150 msrp

if i were you i would go to local Shop and look @ radios & features and decide what you like. dont spend alot of money on one, since could be stolen, plus any off-roading isnt good on a radio.

as for speakers forget "marine speakers" your paying for a while grill and thats is. just make sure you dont get any speaker thats paper. any poly speaker will be water resistante to a point. none will be water proof dont care what a company clames.

i've been running my same speakers for 7y and still going strong.

Do people still steal radios out of cars I thought they just grab GPS units and other loose items?

I am looking at the Kenwood ( Kenwood DDX419 DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com )

If this is a bad idea - what other head units do people recommend?
Sadly people will steal anything they can, all it takes is the keys (to pop the radio out) and they can be in and out in seconds. As for the topic, I don't really know. I'm running stock till it dies but I thought I'd answer your question hah.

Just installed a Kenwood DNX6180 and love it! Has radio, cd, DVD, nab, Bluetooth and satellite. Was also able to hook up to steering wheel.

I-Want-A-Jeep As for marine grade speakers, IMO, you can't get any better than WetSounds brand. They are some really awesome speakers and subwoofers with good amplifiers as well. However, Polk is also a good brand but I've never used their marine equipment.

For marine head units, I'm lost.

Thanks for the Info StangMata. That is exactly what I am looking for. If someone had it and it sucked, then that is what I am trying to find out.

As for the others asking about Marine Grade, YES! I am getting this for a TOPLESS Rubi. I will be going to San Diego for a few years and want to take it off and enjoy the sun. The morning Dew is havoc on regular radio's and all my speakers I listed from Polk are Marine Grade.

Jma20a i'll keep it simple, with sony you dont get what you paid for.

spy The only thing I would be concerned with being topless is some shit bag stealing the cd player so just make sure it has a detachable face plate or get that Ilock lockbox thing from quadratec. Sony's good, alpines better, get whatever one you like better! I went from some of the best headunits, to a jvc dvd player unit to a few sonys and now have a 50$ pioneer headunit.
It plays music its all good! I have seen some units that are strictly for you iphone and play pandora, you may want to check into them, less moving parts less of a problem? good luck!

One person's opinion, but it's not mine. I've been running a Sony for years and have been quite pleased with it. Now granted I'm older, don't have a sub, and don't need anyone three lanes over hearing my music for me to enjoy it.

Some of their cheaper models are. But I'm on my fifth Sony headunit and this is the only one that I haven't been 100% satisfied with. I've also installed quite a few without any complaints. While they are not top of the line they are not all garbage.

We now know who knows nothing about car audio. Another "Sony=crap" argument

I have the same Sony headunit in the non-marine version. It does the job well for the price but I wouldn't recommend it. The audio options are limited and the buttons tend to stick when dust gets stuck in them.

Best Head Radio for a Topless Jeep

I need everyone's honest opinion on which is their favorite Head Unit for a Topless Jeep. I need to be able to see the display but it should have all the latest goodies. I am loving the idea of getting Pandora on my radio so I def want that. I would like to connect my iPhone to it for long hauls to other states for wheeling. If I ever get the itch to buy a hard top for it, I may but a sub box in it but that would kill my storage for trail items so prob not but want the possibility. Ones I am looking at but please chime in everyone.

Sony CDX-M60UI ? mixed reviews ($161)
Alpine CDA-9886M display is too weak ($280)

--------------- Current Radio Build Plans ---------------------
Speakers: Front (2 Options)
If I do an amp, I will run the DB5251
If no amp, then the DB521
Rear: (3 Options)
If I can cut enough room in Pods, DB6501
If not, then the 2 options above from front
Amp: 3 Options
If I don't run a sub: Polk PA 660 75w x 4
If I do run a sub: (SVC) Polk PA 5000.5 100 x 4, 400 x 1
No plans for a DVC but: PA 660 front & Polk PA 600 Rear
Sub: If I do put on in it but will probably be a custom particle box, resin covered for waterproofing and a Polk DB 1040 single voice coil or Polk DB 1040DBC dual voice coil.
