COJeeper I have the 245/75/16's as well--they are the "upgrade" from the 225's on the Wrangler X. The stock wheel is 16x8--which I replaced with 16x8 black uniques. I haven't purchased a wider tire yet.

Get ya some 16X8.. 4 and half inch backspaced wheels and mount up some 285/70 16s they will be near 32 iches tall and about 11 inches wide.....Ive seen quite a few like this at the dealership.....it fills out the wheelwells well and gives it the stance it sounds like you are looking for.....Gary

So different tread patterns will be slightly different.

But after re-reading you posts, are you saying you want to keep the tires and just make them stick out more.. If that is the case, go with the spacers I put the link to in my other post. You need two sets. about $100 and you should be good to go. And you will be all set when you do need to change tires and you can just put on 285/75 16s.

Umpalumpa So how do I know what size wheels to get? How wide. I measured my tire tread at about 7.5 in. Judging by that measurement I'm wanting around 10-12 inches.

ETA:The tires that are on there now came with it when I bought the jeep. The salesman never mentioned anything about the tires so I assumed they were stock. I guess not, oh well, I'm sure it was the dealership that put them on.
Stock Jeep 16 rims are 7in wide, they do not recommend going over 265 (10.5in) wide on them, but people regularly go 285 (11.25) with no issues. The back spacing on stock rims is 6.5 in.. so as tires get wider you either need rims with less backspacing or to add spacers. You can find them on Ebay for just over $100.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-UP...em160200870113
If you go 305 (12in) or 315 (12.5in) wide,, you should probably go with wider rims.. Summit Racing has 16x8 with 5x5 bolt pattern steel Crager soft 8s, with I believe 5in backspacing, for about $60 each.

First let me say I don't know how to read tire sizes, so I really don't know what I have. Also I don't know what size wheel I need to get to get the extra 1-2 inches that would stick out of the wheel well. I've got a tape measure and camera so please feel free to ask me to take measurements or pictures if needed.

ETA: It would be nice to get a slightly larger tire as well too, if that matters when selecting the wheels.
245???? Stock Wrangler X comes with 225/75 16,, optional 255/75 17. Stock Sahara comes with 255/70 18, and stock Rubicon comes with 255/75 17

The 17s and 18s all end up being 32in tall.

Where did you get 245?

You should be able to go to 265/75 16 (32in tall) or 305/70 16 (32.8 inch tall) or 315/65 16 (33in tall) You may need different rims with less back spacing or spacers for the stock rims.
