|Triple88a||I've also seen few people lower the frame control arm blocks a bit when running high lift on short arms to decrease the angle of the LCAs (similar to mounting a trackbar drop bracket at the Frame).|

|Triple88a||Aussie if you're willing to make your own then why not make your own long lowers? It will be just a bit more since you'll use more money for the piping but if you're willing to do the work, just go ahead and get it all done once. The only thing you will have to do with long arms that you wont have to do with short custom arms will be relocating the mounts.|

i'm happy with my 3.5" rubicon lift (lifted 4") If i ever want bigger tyres i'll just trim the guards. So this is as high as I will go
I understand how long arms work, just want to know if it's worth the money over new short arms.
the cost of long arms plus exhaust mods is so much more than just getting or making my own short arms.

|upinar||a long arm setup is the closest you can get to a stock ride due to the similar angles. although i definatley think 3500 bucks is crazy for what it brings. but if you want more than 4.5 inches of lift, you have pretty much have no choice unless you want every bolt shaking loose when you drive down the road. A jeep with a decent 4inch lift can drive beutiful, just like a jeep with a 6.5inch long arm. Before you ask "is it worth it?" first determine how much lift you want to go with.|

The thing with short arms is, when you hit a bump in the road, they transfer more of the "bump" into the frame than the springs and shocks because they are more vertical than a log arm of the same height lift. With the long arms, they have a greater radius and will better transfer that "bump" to the springs and shocks.

The biggest benefit that long arms have over short arms while wheeling is that with a good setup LA suspension you will not be shortening your wheelbase when flexing. Look at how your suspension travels. In an arc. Best way I can think to state it is very elementary but it worked for me. Take your arm and bend it at the elbow. See how much travel it has? Now straighten your arm and see how much more motion your entire arm gives you in the same arc range that you had with the shorter setup.
This same principle is what gives you a better ride on the road as well. With a bunch of lift on stock arms they start to sit at a pretty nasty angle. Hence a rougher ride. Long arms setups put the stock TJ suspension geometry very close to how it was from the factory.

Are long arms really worth it?
What are the real benifits from long arms besides more wheel travel?
people often say the car rides better on road, but how?
and they say they can drive things with out lockers that they previously they used lockers on, why? did they have wheels leaving the ground before but aren't now?
I've see properly set up short arm systems travel very close to a bolt on long arm kit.
So, me with a 3.5" Rubicon lift running all stock control arms (bar top upper adjustables for my sye) am looking to upgrate. Is it worth going a long arm lift or just putting on new superflex rubicon arms.
I wheel mud, rocks, sand, well just about everything.
I generally get out once a month.
