studlypotato I had a 93 S-10 Blazer that I loved 3" lift 32" Pro Comps. It's was a sweet little ride, but I was having to put more and more work and $$ into it and its just wasn't worth it so I sold it to a buddy of mine that muds and we went looking some something similar. We got a 11' JK Sport S package (cause it came with the bigger tires and wheels). It's our first Jeep and we love it, except two weekends ago, St Patrick's day weekend as a matter o'fact we went up north to her parents place. I figured her brother-in-law and I could take it out and have a little fun. Well my wife decided that we should take our 10 month old niece with us so everyone could see her and her mom could have the weekend to herself. Well than one of my wifes sister wanted to go with us. If your counting that 3 adults and a baby in a carseat. Plus our dog, which is our only child right now,Luckily he is a Jack Russell. Plus all of our stuff. It was a cramped 2hr ride. Needless to say I've been looking at the new 4 Dr Rubicons b/c we do want to have kids of our own and a 4 Dr is more family friendly, and I can still offroad with the Rubicon. So win win win. I have to remorse, except that my buddy blow up my blazer a week after he got it. Buried it in almost 4 foot of mud and water. :'(

Hope you have a safe deployment and Thank you for you service.

It's not that it wasn't doable before, but it is far easier with the unlimited. As far as why a Rubicon? I don't know, it pretty much is overkill, I don't really need the lockers and the Dana 44 up front, but I wanted them anyway.
Practical def matters. The 4 door sure is nice when you have a 7 year old and a great dane!!!

Well, I took the new Rubi out wheelin' today and I can say that it is a huge difference between it and my old X. The only real drawback it had was wider turning radius that required me to do a 3 point turn a few times that I would have been able to handle as a U-turn before. Other than that the new one stock was worlds better than the old one lifted. The ride was so much better I don't even know how to describe it. I don't even want to get into what it was like when I dropped it down to 4LO and locked the axles just to see what the big deal was.

So, sorry old girl, but you've been replaced.

DiSH Regret paying $35K for a new vehicle? Yes

Regret having one of the funnest, go-anywhere vehicles around? No

If it means that much to you, search out your old TJ and buy it back!

JeepWranglerFlameRed so i traded my convertible in for my 2012 sahara...nervous that the softtop will be more of a pain to take off, as im used to pushing a button with no latches /:, i have the sunrider softtop, is that easy to get open quickly? just the front part?

That's one of the major reasons for the shift. That and my old one had a few other problems besides just being two door that made it a little unsafe for kids. Not that I didn't put him in it anyway because kids aren't made of glass, but I'm more comfortable with this one.

Thanks for that image. THAT'S a jeep.

kfog252 the saftey aspect of your kids is worth moving to a 4dr from the old 2dr. i had the same thoughts. the 4dr offers so much more convenience....haul more crap out in the woods and take the whole family! enjoy it....it's an awesome rig

basecamper I had about a month between the time I sold my Avalanche and picked up my JKUR and I did have second thoughts...but after about 100 miles on the Jeep I knew I made the right decision! Three weeks later I am very happy with the Jeep and I am having a lot of fun making it mine

I'm going to leave it stock for now, except maybe getting rid of the plastic bumpers. Maybe after I get back from deployment at the end of the year I'll do a few more things to it, but as a Rubicon I can't really think of anything outside of cosmetic upgrades that it needs, especially with the limited places to off-road on the island.

FTNuke Well, then you never saw me in my old Jeep, because I shaka everyone. It got a much better response in the old one with no doors and my arm all the way out, but it does get returned. A few people have finally responded to the new one, I've just started initiating a lot earlier to make people feel like assholes for not responding.

Cutter spent all their time trying to highball me so I went to Windward Jeep.
4 hours wasted as they tried to move one of 3 Jeeps off their lot on to my back. I finally told them "You're trying to sell me a car I didn't come to buy, with options I don't want, in a color I don't like."
And left.
I was ready to order from an LA dealer and have it shipped over (and still save $1,500) when I emailed a final offer for the build I wanted and Windward took it.
Just got the VIN today so I figure maybe 6 more weeks til it shows up.

Looking forward to starting the 17 mods I have ready.

Enjoy yours.

BTW - no one waves except us guys on motorcycles, and only to real bikers, not those crotch rockets.
I don't think I've ever seen two jeeps shaka each other.

If you can't get it back for yourself hopefully your TJ will make it into the hands of someone who appreciates the work you did.

BTW I'm in Hawaii too.
I hope they don't have cause to regret any of the work I did. The old Jeep had its little quirks, I'd hate to have try discovering them all at once versus over time as I did. I wish them luck!

Lbailey21 We all might want to kick ourself sometimes for spending too much money on our jeeps. but at the end of the day, looking back. Totally worth it!!

i82much I only wave to hot girls. When they wave back, I don't have any buyer's remorse at all.

I am a little disappointed to report that almost no one, especially in "real" Jeeps, is returning my waves. That bugs me a little, I may not have always initiated waves to stock JKs (too likely to be a tourist here in Hawaii and they just don't know any better) but I always returned a wave if they went first. I don't entirely blame them, with the painted hardtop it almost looks like an H3.
FT...when I traded in my 05 Malibu for my '12 JK, I made sure nobody was looking after I locked it up, then I gave the spoiler a little pat goodbye. This was a generic fleet car that got me through college, and I had a tinge of sadness when I left her. I understand where you're coming from. Now, since it was a Malibu, that sadness was gone about 30 minutes later when I hit the streets. Since yours was a Wrangler (which I'm already attached to big time), it will take a little longer.

This "wave" deal is...whatever. If someone can't tell a Jeep from a Hummer before waving, they don't deserve to own a Jeep. I mean, the H3 is similar and whatnot, but only a fool couldn't tell the difference.

People in my area don't wave at all. Out of curiousity, after a month or so of driving, I gave a generic "two fingers off the steering wheel" wave to a couple cars. They both returned the wave, but would NOT have initiated it.

For fun, I've rolled down the window and given some serious hook'em horns to other drivers when I went through an intersection, and gotten waves or honks in reply...but this is all when I'm feeling stupid and giddy about life.

In short, I don't really think about 'the wave.'

Yeah, no. Maybe, maybe MAYBE I'd have the slightest tiny little tinge of "Maybe I Should Have Waited" if the 2012 was rated at 20/25 mpg or higher. But it would be passing and I'd be over it in 5 minutes.

As it is, there isn't a single thing about the 2012 that makes me wish I had one. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but power gains alone are meaningless to me because my 2011 drives fine and I don't race it.

If I traded in my 2011 tomorrow, I'd get about $9k-$10k more than I owe on it, which would be a great down payment on a 2012. But I have zero desire to do that. I'd be more likely to buy a 2011 Rubicon. Truth of the matter is, I intend to be buried in my 2011.

KSCRUDE I had a 85 bronco and it was a super 4X4. Ford knew more about gearing trucks in 1985 then Jeep does today! Never had to regear the bronco as it drove down the highway with power to spare. Can't say that about the 11 jeep I bought last February. The most underpowered vehicle I ever owned, until I regeared and now it is better but not up to ford specs. It's a crying shame that Ford didn't buy jeep instead of these peons that have it now!

I like the 2011 I just bought. It was the last one on the lot and the dealers ad teaser. Got it for $4500 under invoice.

New2012JEEP Give it a week. You will love this new Jeep. I had an AWD CRV that was actually pretty nice, reliable, etc... I felt weird that first week getting into the Jeep, freakin love it now though! really weird, it's like a transition.
