4.0 making a noise

I have a friend that has a tricked out 98 wrangler sahara. The 4.0 engine is stock at this point but just started making a noise. It is kinda like a chirping sound and after crawling all over it, it seems to be coming from the distributor. Have any of you ever came across this before. Any help would be appreciated.
