That is depending on what you consider a regular lift I suppose. There is no real way to give an exact amount on the SOA because some people need to go farther into it than others for their type of wheeling.
Some folks just slap some perches on the top of the axles, get longer shocks, and a slip yoke eliminator and/or a custom drive shaft made.
Sounds easy.......but there is still more work to be done.
My best advice is do your research before doing a SOA and make sure that is what you want. A "standard lift" or spring under makes more sense to most as far as money goes.

|Jeffro Martin Jackson||go SOA but DO IT RIGHT and you wont regret it. Gotta go with high steer system. As with any lift your dropping the center link way south of the drag link and this causes rediculous bumpstear.....not only that but an un safe amount of play in the steering. Theres a whole science behind the angles but to keep it short...just f'n do it. I did the rocky road version and its unreal how much of a difference it made. Soa will give you more than you need and its simple for a mechanically incliined person. Way cheaper to. Ill say it again and again...SOA + HIGH STEER KIT = PERFECT|

|Jpnhunter||4" RC and 33x12.5x15 tires no fender rubbing till I went with 3.75" backspacing. Now the tires rub the rear fenders on a really hard bump because they are out farther. But it cured the springs getting rubbed on a full lock. Trimming 1" from the rear fenderflare would stop the rub but I have 7" fender flares in route to my house as we speak.|

|Ibuildembig||Did they do a reverse shackle too? Those drive horrible.....5-6 is what you normally get depending on which perches you use and how worn your springs are. There really isn't a limit on how big you can go with SOA, it just depends on which springs you use. My 61 year old parents drive the crap out of it|

|flatline||soa with stock springs give you about 5 1/2 inches of lift. why they feel unsafe could be stock worn out springs are to soft, and long shackles cause more sway. I run soa with rubicon express 1.5 springs 1/2 inch longer shackles with no track bars or sway bars. you just learn not to try high speed tuning. other than that it runs fine at 75 mph.|

What size SOA conversion did you do? 4"? 6"? bigger?
I remember 10+ years ago a bunch of the guys in my Jeep club in Michigan did SOA conversions and their main complaint was that the Jeep felt unsafe on the road, particularly over 45MPH. Not sure if that still applies but I remember that being a lingering sentiment.

|morphious||got it straight from the rough country site and it took about four days. but i ordered on a Thursday and so it stretched it by a day. it come ups if ur in a hurry and have the cash u can express ship it. expect a ticked off delivery guy though its not light and the leaves come all separate.|

|morphious||with shipping its 500 i have one on my floor right next to me u can upgrade the shocks if u want but i went with the 8's that come with the kit it was cheaper and they look like they will do OK|

|duaneduanet||I would get the Rough Country 4" lift and upgrade to the 9000 series shocks. Then get the quick disconnect. If I remember correctly the RC lift kit is about 500.00|

|barnesry||Thanks everyone, my two friends have 3.5" lifts on their YJs and they clear 33s, but they do look stuffed. Is the rough country lift the way to go or should I go with a RE? I don't mind spending extra money to do this right. I do want to step up my wheelin (mountain trails and muddin), but want clearance bigger tires will afford me to feel more confident.|

|morphious||um a 4 inch lift should clear 33's actually but i'll let u know I'm doing the lift tomorrow and tires Monday so guess we will just have to see but every one else in the lift reveiw so far that did a rough country 4 inch lift has been able t clear 33's|

I wouldn't do the SOA on a daily driver. A 4" spring lift will be okay for 32" tires. Add a 1"body lift for 33's.
