nwbronco Power came on this morning at 2AM. Out since Thursday morning around 10AM. Tree limbs every where. Neighbor lost a plum tree, it split in thirds. A third in his front yard, a third on my house, and a third in my side yard. Lost 6 limbs from 2 to 6 inches in diameter off of our big fir tree. Took out part of the fence, fixed that. Have limbs and stuff to cut up today.

As of this morning, North Thurston county: 18k still without power, 4 schools still closed.

Why not use one set on each axle?
Have 2 sets but never needed both.
Just doesn't snow or freeze that often here in the PNW.

They are required at times to cross the mtn passes, just good to have them if you need them.

X-Truck-Owner Chains, schmains! They just slow you down! Lock it in and hammer down! I think I fell in love this past week, I put a good 500 miles on in the snow and ice last week, that Jeep does better in 2wd than my F150 in 4x4! I am amazed, there is no better vehicle out there!

We got a lot of snow here for the area, my house I had about 8 inches, other friends had almost 20 inches. Our problem here was the freezing rain that followed it. We sat up at night listening to the trees snap in half from all the weight, sounded like the 4th of July at times. Went without power for about 3 days some were out for longer and some are still out. Lots of firewood laying on the sides of the road right now, gonna be a long clean-up.

Sorry no pictures of Jeepin in the snow. I have no idea how to upload pictures to here. Got a bunch of the area snowfall though.

flyinion Why not use one set on each axle? Just curious since I was reading about 4WD vehicle and how to use chains with them the other day. A few sites were saying you should put them on all the wheels otherwise you're essentially turning your 4x4 into a 4x2 with either poor traction to keep the rear from flipping around or poor steering control.
01-23-2012 02:47 PM
TrueNorth Steering and stopping mainly.
If I was just using the chains to get tracition to pull someone out and only had 1 set I would put them on the rear.
Strongler axles in the Dana 44 and it has a limited slip differential. We had some glaze ice (freezing rain) after the snow so it was hella slick here for a few days.

You want the chains on the front so you can steer better.

But I can appreciate the rarity of it all and love seeing the Jeeps in the snow! Rock on! Ted

woody2469 that's why when I lived in Auburn I had a BIG ASS generator, power was always going out. Had a 2-door 2006 Wrangler X then, was nice when we had the big ass snowstorm in 2008 I think it was, hundreds of cars abandoned on I-5, shut the area down for about a week.
01-19-2012 08:32 AM
nwbronco Nothing melted and now has a coating of ice on top. Power outages are up in our region now.

Now THAT'S a Jeep family!

And, that's the wettest snow I have ever seen!

PV1191 I'm in Marysville, about 45 minutes north of Seattle. Tuesday was the worst for us. I had over a foot of accumulation by the afternoon. Today added about 3 inches so far.

we started getting snow here in spokane around 9am today, and we are under winter storm advisory until 4pm tomorrow.. probably have 2-3 inches accumulated now
Have about 4-6 inches here in the CDA/Post Falls area.
Just waiting for a "lull" in the action to go and plow my driveway with my new for me in 2012 SnowsportHD 8' plow blade.
Sure beats trying to plow 180' driveway with a 4' blade on a quad.
Especially when the snow is 12" deep and wet.

flyinion I remember when I lived up there and commuted to work from Federal Way to Boeing in Everett for the afternoon/evening shift. When it would snow like that, I never had to worry about traffic because nobody was on the freeway lol.
