arcountryboy It could have the 2.5 4 cylinder or if it's a I6 it could either be a 4.0 liter or a 4.2 liter. I had a 89 with a 4.2, but my friend had an 89 with a 4.0 in it. Both were original yj's. Can you post some pics.

Have question about 1989 Wrangler Laredo

Would anyone here know what size engine a 1989 Jeep Wrangler Laredo would have originally come with? I bought one in June and it has the original engine. I am not familiar with Jeeps and I am not auto mechanic minded (although I have worked on other autos before with books and done pretty well - used to be a nuclear power plant operator, so I am not non-mechanically minded). Anyway, I would like to know the size and type of the engine I am dealing with. It did not come with the owner's manual since it is 22 years old.

It's in great shape for its age. Runs great since I replaced the fuel pump and battery and cables. Almost no rust. Hard top and bikini top plus half doors to go with (and frame for bikini top), has after factory A/C that works. and a Kenwood radio (AF) that works. Not bad for antique class.

Anyway, if anyone could help me with the size of engine - I would really appreciate it.

Thanks so much.

Happy off roading. I hope to be out there soon.
