willybTJ Just finished installing 5.25" in the front with boomats and 6.5" JBL in the top pods, along with some baffling of pillow stuffing.

Had to dremmel to get the 6.5" to fit. Sounds 100% better. Only issue is the bass is rattling my dome light covers....either got to pop them out or figure out how to get them to fit snugger.

Thanks for the recommendation TJ Speed, I just ordered these speakers, and I'm going to move my 5.25 infinity references currently in the sound pods to the dash with brackets I just bought from ebay....oh yeah!

KKhamesi ya im replacing my dash speakers with 5.25. ill be getting boom mats to help the sound and the rattling. ill check out polk audio as well

denisbaldwin If you haven't decided on new speakers yet, check out the Polk Audio marine line. Very nice sound, decent price, water proof. They're a definitely upgrade and the plate speaker version of the 4x6 (DB461P, I believe) will perform at the level of a much bigger speaker.

98jeepkid I put the kickers in mine off of quadratec. The best speakers I've had so far other than some high quality pioneers in my truck but for the pice and sounds the kickers are hard to beat.

Allstar Realtor Yesterday I took out the stock 5.25 sound bar speakers and replaced them with 6.5, 200 watt ones I've had in the garage for years. I had to drill 4 new holes, but wasn't a big deal. Much easier with an extra set of hands. Just for grins, I took the dash cover off of the front speakers to see what was in there. I found that they have a foam sound direction type thing in there that really restricted the sound. I cut the opening out about .5" on each side and slid them back in. I don't know how much it will help, but I feel better!

You end up drilling through the bottom of the cloth? Right? And how do the screws stay in there if they are not in the right spot?

KKhamesi ya i forgot to mention that i have a 500w amp and a 10" sub.
thanks for your response everyone ill definitely keep doing some research.

garland thats a great idea! ill try that

Garlandxj Don't spend the money on the adapters. Do what I did. Search for the template on-line. Go to the dollar store and buy 2 $1.00 cutting boards. Trace the template on to the cutting board and cut it out. I used a jig saw. (If you don't have one, then for the price of the adapters go buy one. ) $2:00 adapter plates !!!

The speaker in the pic is a Memphis Audio 5 1/4. I have since switched it out for Polk 5 /14

cnolan76 I got the Polk audio db21 5.25 mounted in the dash with the adapters mentioned above. For the soundbar I used the Polk db651 6.5's with poly fil stuffed in the holes. I replaced the stock head unit with an alpine hu and it sounds fine. The tweeters outshine the bass so you may want a sub if you are into a lot of bass. It's sounds great, even topless.

TJNewbie [QUOTE=stuckinwater;1936325]Was it hard or time consuming when you re-drilled the holes??[/QUOTE

With some 6.5" speakers you won't need to re-drill the sound bar. I didn't have to with my 6.5 Sony Explodes.
01-20-2012 04:39 AM
TJNewbie For quality I'd go with the JBL's. In the sound bar, I have the Sony 6.5" Explodes they're 200 watt peak, 3ways, shallow mount, water resistant. they sound awesome! good deep bass, mids and highs are very good. but Sony doesn't make that model anymore.

And dont know about water proof... i mean the dash seem pretty out of the way and tucked up inside and the speaker dash vents are small so i dont think you would really need to worry unless you plan on jammin to AC/DC under 4 feet of water lol
