08JeepSahara Ooo-Rah!! The mike was delivered over the weekend. Since I was off today I took the 30 mins to install and activate. Total out of pocket. $200. $35 for the mike and $165 for the GPS map upgrade, which included the radio software update. (I'm still waiting on the free MYGIG software update from Chrysler)

Helpful tip: be sure the compass connector is free and accessible when you slide the radio back in. I got extra practice removing the radio and reinstalling.

Also, you don't have to completely remove the column plastic facia, but unless you have 3 hands it makes the radio removal much easier.

Tools required: Flathead screwdriver, 9/32 socket or nut driver. If using ratchet use 1" extension.

Gotta share that STEVE WHITE MOTORS on Amazon took my order for the mike on 2/22 and it was on my front porch on 2/25. Shipping $4.43. Nice.

Nice, I'm just too lazy to drive all the way there and it's quicker to stick it on a USB stick and go

$165 shipped. Since my maps were 4-5 yrs old many streets didn't exist. Needed the update and it brought my radio software level current at the same time.

Little pricey but map upgrades are not optional and still gonna be a lot cheaper than the service dept option.

Ordered the uconnect microphone from a amazon dealer $35 shipped. So far so cheap.

My concern now will be microphone placement.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

Nope, if you got into Engineering Mode then that's the in the list (at least it is on my unit). Maybe your version of the system software is too old?

@200 for the u-connect module
@200 for labor to install

Here is what I did - went to ebay and orderd a Mopar mic for the Mygig radio for $30 dollars, installed, and changed the settings to "activate" u-connect in the Mygig radio engineering settings. What a "spanking" from the dealer.

For all those jeeps with u-connect not working - DO not use a dealership!!!!

To activate u-connect - Press and hold seek up and down and menu buttons to enter "engineering mode" - go down to the bottom and activate JK mode.

Install of the mic was really easy - just plug in the back of your radio (only one place it can go). If you need help removing the radio, let me know and I will post that info.

Also, look at the bottom right of the unit faceplate, right below the aux jack. You will see the 3 Letter designation for your head unit.

So don't mean to be really slow, but, just joined this conversation....
my question is "Is all you need the Microphone, plug it in and go to the
engineering mode???? Have read about the Lockpick, so I'm confused whether or not I need that. Thanks

Try different phones, there might be a problem with ur iphone or its just that the iphone doesnt work nicely that way, I think it would be better if u use other phones to make sure where the problem is from. Im using the Nokia E 51 & its fine in speeds below 60 m/h.

Rhadid I've seen people mount the right under the radio. I dunno how to get the wire all the way across to the pillar.
12-08-2010 12:19 PM
daggo66 They are no wireless. Mine is on the A pillar. You can't see the wire. There are voice commands to pair your phone with the uconnect.
12-08-2010 10:25 AM
nomorecummins that will be somewhat handy, how do I go about getting my phone to work with it then? I just noticed the mics are being put by the visors, are they wireless? if not would'nt it be alot easier to just mount the mic close to the radio, or won't this work as good
12-08-2010 10:04 AM
daggo66 Yes, the radio features are voice activated.
12-08-2010 09:33 AM
nomorecummins don't mind my ignorance, I have an 09 with navigation, If I buy the mic is my phone the only thing it can be used for or are some of the features on the radio voice activated also, I have a moto droid, never used bluetooth, do I need to also by something for my phone or just change a setting somewhere
12-08-2010 07:43 AM
wlee3372 Right - mine was the RER - with GPS - hard drive (music) - and the U-connect is apparently built in. I don't know what to say about the other units.
12-08-2010 07:41 AM
wlee3372 Well, I just installed mine above the mirror, thought that both the passenger and driver could speak. I noticed the factory install is just to the left of the driver visor.

While I was calling everyone yesterday checking out the functionality of the system, not many people could hear me at highway speeds. When I got home, I move it over to the left and mounted it about where the factory mic's are placed.

I'll give an update on that location after testing later today!!
