I'd say it's any combination of body elements that are rattling... listen to any hard hitting stereo outside of almost any vehicle and you'll hear rattles...
Check your license plate...

|TJe0454||they are bolted down. its possible that the rattling is from wires. sounds like something outside of the jeep. i cant hear it in my jeep. can hear it really well standing next to the jeep by the gas tank though...|

Im betting thats what is rattling around. did you bolt them down? can you put anything under there between the amps and the floor so its not metal on metal? something as simple as little rubber feet would do the trick. Other than that Im not ecaxtly sure whats attached to the top of the gas tank hope someone else can chime in on that part.

|TJe0454||i just finished. the subs hit really hard. shakes the hell out of my jeep. one question: what is on top of the gas tank (gas lines/electrical/etc. that would vibrate a lot? i can hear something rumbling around when i listen to music. i can take pics if anybody is interested. i ended up putting the amps on the ground under the subs.|

|I-Want-A-Jeep||Yeah that'll be safe. It'll still be difficult to get both to play exactly the same but using a DMM to set gains and using crossovers on the head unit instead of on the amps will help out.|

|TJe0454||i got one of the subs brand new for 30 bucks and the amp for 70 barely used. i looked up strapping the m500 but didnt see anything. it might sound dumb, but what if i had the subs configured in a way that each amp has a coil on both subs?|

A better fit would have been only one of those mono amps and the same subs only in a DVC 2ohm version. This would have allowed a series/parallel wiring so both subs would show a 2ohm load to one amp and it would give each sub 250watts..
As/is, if you're dead set on running both amps, I'd highly suggest separate airspaces for each sub. It's going to be difficult to get both amps to give exactly the same signal/power to each sub which is why the separate airspace will be helpful.
I don't know if those amps are strappable or if that would even help in this case...

|POS YJ||I have a similar box for 2 tens in the back of my YJ. I mounted my amp (Alpine 2 x whatever the stereo guy sold me) under the drivers seat frame. This way I only have to remove a pair of speaker wires and the box is out. Didn't want to worry about the signal wires and power wires shorting out when the box is out. I have removed it several times, and glad I did it that way. I welded a couple pieces of flat strap to the upper part of the seat frame to mount the amp to. This way it's off of the floorboard protected from heat and moisture to a degree as well.|

The amps are Alpine MRP-M500. Subwoofers are Polk Audio DXi 104 DVC 4 ohms. I'm planning on running them at 2 ohms.
I haven't decided on the shared/separate air issue. I am researching it now. Looks like ill have 1.515 ft^3 of air space not including the driver displacement. Each sub calls for .66 ft^3 of air sealed and 1.25 ft^3 ported.

What model are the subs? I'd be cautious trying to run an amp per sub, especially if they're in a shared airspace.
Let me know the model and voice coil configuration of the subs and I'll see if you would be able to run both off one amp efficiently..

Yes the sliders are for anchoring the enclosure, and to also make it easily removable.

What are each of the amps for? 2 separate mono amps plus a 2 ch amp??
Are the sliders dual purpose?? 1, for removal assistance and 2,for anchoring to the floor? If so then I can see where that would be nice since you said you don't have a back seat to retain the box.

Now that I think about it, it might be best to mount the 2 mono amps to the back side of the enclosure, and find a spot for or get rid of the 2 chan amp. Does anyone know the biggest amp that can fit under/in the front passenger seat while retaining the tilt function?

|I-Want-A-Jeep||What do you plan on doing with the wiring to the two amps on the tailgate? And I'm still not sure on the sliders. Seems like with the small space in the rear area, the sliders are kinda unnecessary... Just my opinion..|

|TJe0454||i got the build underway. ripped out the rest of the carpet, took out my instatrunk, unhooked my amps,thought about the location of the (3) amps. i think ive decide on mounting one of my mono amps to the right side of the tub next to the enclosure and have the other two mounted next to each other on the tailgate. i have 13" sliders that will bring the enclosure all the way out the back of my tailgate if/when i want to remove the speakers. what do you all think?|

Really you're not likely to damage the amp by having it mounted on the enclosure. Ideally you'd have it mounted elsewhere but it's not likely to shorten the amps life by mounting it there.

|TJe0454||I've read different things about mounting the amp directly to the enclosure, it makes sense not to because of the vibrations. But it seems like everyone is doing it!! If I can mount them safely to the enclosure, it would make my life a lot easier, id put them on the rear, facing the trunk|

i really appreciate the advice! ill crunch the numbers tomorrow on the box. right now im working out the amps/subs. looks like ill be running the subs with dual m500s. (picking up another one tomorrow).
My original idea for amp placement was on the sidewall of the tub in the trunk area. i would lose width, but preserve height. and yes, ill have 3 amps total. might mount the 2channel amp on the tailgate

I was thinking more along the lines of dimensions and space needed. for example:
2" tall amp
2" minimum clearance for downfiring subs
thats already 4" up from the floor and theres only like 14" to the top of the tailgate if I remember correctly. also the rear seat tapers back making the clearance at the top of the box only 9" or so. Just going to have to be a really tall box for that to happen properly.
These measurements are probably not "Spot" on since its been a long time since I did the planning for my box so dont go building off my memory but just wanted to give a heads up since this is something I have been thru already.

|LilYeller||You may end up running into some serious volume issues if you plan to keep the amps under the box. I would put the amps under the rear seat as this will allow you to have more space in the rear "trunk" area for the box and proper volume required. Also your gas tank is right below the trunk area and you need to be VERY sure that you dont drill into it while mounting anything. As for the subs on a slider, it should work nicely just remember if it is easy for you to take them out then it will be easy for a thief. I hate saying things like that cause most people will never have an issue but its something to consider. I currently have 1 kicker cvT the thin mount ones in a sealed box behind my seat, I mounted it to the tailgate so I could secure it without the gas tank issue. Good luck and enjoy!|
