H3br3wHamm3r81 No, but I'm considering it. I take it in on 6/11 to have grill, pillars, and hood done. I might have the doors done since we all know they are prone to being dinged or scratched in time. I'll let you know how much I'm quoted.

KlausVanWinkle Has anyone had the sides/doors done? I'm wondering how much that would cost. My wife really wants a black rubicon, but we're definitely going to pinstripe the thing.

BILLET SILVER XPEL...I had the front grill, entire hood, w/s pillars, fender flares...the stuff is the best I have seen. I have it on all of my vehicles, no paint dings. I had it installed on the areas that take the superslab debris blasts. Best paint protection out there IMHO.

MANGOJK15 Thanks for posting the excellent write up on XPEL Ultimate. I checked out the pictures posted by the shop and they did a terrific job.

Wow I'd be stoked if I could get it that cheap in Denver. Quotes are $200 for 12 inches of hood, $300 more for fenders.

All 4 and maybe the grille. Based on my previous wraps I'd ballpark it around $200.

As soon as I took delivery of my Audi S4 last year, I had the front wrapped in Xpel Ultimate.

After a year of ownership I can tell you that this product lives up the claims. My Audi is Phantom Black Pearl and I logged 15k miles of mostly highway/interstate driving with no chips of any kind.

The OP is correct, this product is self-healing. If you receive a scratch, pouring warm water over the scratch helps it heal faster. Most of mine healed within 24 hours especially in the hot summer sun.

The only downside to any film is if you sustain more than just a scratch. I pulled my Audi forward just enough to scrape a parking curb and it peeled the film up, leaving exposed paint. The good news is that paint was protected but the bad news is that the front had to be rewrapped to cure the problem. The latter costs $300-400.

I'm looking to wrap the fenders of JKU in the next couple of weeks with Xpel.

TNwoodsman I am glad you resurrected this thread. So one year later you are still impressed and definitely recommend? I have the True Blue color which will be hard to take care of and I am debating this Xpel. Does it shine as well as the paint would? If I washed and waxed my car without Xpel and it had a shine like no other, will it still have that same shine when Xpel is installed after washing and waxing? I don't want to take away from the shine and beauty of the car after a nice washing and waxing.

Resurrection?

Easter Just past, and I was at Easter Jeep Safari, so its fitting that I "Resurrect" this thread with an update.

here we are 15 months after installation and the xpel wrap is still saving my bacon!

We were in moab for easter Jeep Safari and were on a trail ride with Rock Krawler on monday. (after having driven 30 hours to get there.)

We were with about 50 Jeeps on the trail ride, and were the ROOKIES of the bunch. We also had the smallest tires and lift in the group. To cut to the chase, the obstacles in moab are far apart on the trail, so there are long stretches of dirt road between obstacles. On one of these stretches, there was a high banking turn. So high i was concerned about rolling the truck if I took it on the high side. The inside had trees growing into it, and being that they were cut at some point for the trail, they had jagged edges sticking out. Knowing the high side was too steep, We had to grit our teeth and take the low side, tipping our truck directly into the branches and stumps. There was no way to avoid them. The sound they made scratching the body as we went by was enough to bring tears to my eyes. Everyone in the truck discussed how severe the damage would be when we got out. Some predicted that the wrap would be gouged, others thought it would be all together ripped off.

When I could stop and look, the wrap was severely scratched. I though to myself, the wrap may be ruined, but the body and paint undneath should be ok..... or so i hoped. As we met the other trucks at the next obstacle, my passengers began to talk to the other jeepers about how i bashed my truck into the trees so all would have a good joke at my expense. I on the other hand went to inspect the scratches more thoroughly. it was hot and the sun was beating down. I licked my thumb and began to rub a deep section of the worst scratch. I couldnt believe when it disappeared. I dont know if it was the friction of my thumb that made it hot, but whatever. It came off. I called my friends over knowing they wouldnt believe it. seconds later, my 2 friends and 10 strangers were all licking their thumbs and rubbing the jeep. It was a hysterical sight. But when the pack dispersed, the truck was once again scratch free. (this is a healing wrap)

Here are some pictures, the first is a bend similar to the one i was on when I hit the trees, Its not the same one, but it is the closest picture i have to show an idea of what the turn looked like. The actual turn was much steeper and taller than the one in the pic, but you get the idea.

then you have 2 shots where you can see the scratches in the fender and rear quarter.

I also added a pick so you can see what kind of brush im talking about

PieFace Im doing wheels now with the xpel wrap.

Also, just because this thread popped back up, I'd like to mention, Ive driven that wrapped truck through every type of brush. I was in rausch creek a few weeks ago, and there were some lines that had to be taken that ran up the side of the trail. We would have branches coming in the windows of the truck, hitting us in the face.

obviously those same branches were dragging down the side of the truck, and you could see the drag marks that resulted, when we finally got out.

On the 3 hour ride home in the sun the marks healed. The truck looked new again when we got home. If anyone is in the north jersey area and wants to take a look, pm me.

over 5k miles and we have done everything to that truck but set it on fire.

XPEL Jeff Keep in mind that even if you don't plan on keeping your Jeep forever, the difference in trade in value between Excellent and fair usually adds up to thousands of dollars. PieFace has definitely gone above and beyond the norm with full body coverage, but you can also cover the highest impact areas at a fraction of the cost.

On older Jeeps, it is a great way to keep rust from starting without using a with a bedliner spray, which we all know is a deterrent to buyers for the fact that it could be covering up rust.

I get the truck plenty dirty. I drive through dirt roads completely overgrown. The branches are dragged across the sides of the truck.

The wrap just makes it so those are not scratches.

My Jeep is constantly filthy, but when its clean, its beautiful.

JPzilla Just curious - I don't believe I've seen anyone ask this question... but why buy a jeep if you're so concerned about swirls and scratches? I'm not being critical was just wondering. I happen to live in the country/woods and would drive myself nuts if I was worried about getting the jeep dirty/nicked up.

PieFace I bought my jeep, so I expect to keep it a long time. It looks new everytime I see it. I love that.

Im a little nutty about it, but yes, swirl marks would keep me up at night. Im not soft on using my truck, it gets beat on plenty. But when I throw a bucket of water at it, It looks NEW again. Not clean, NEW.

others may say "its a jeep, who cares", I say, sure its a jeep, but I love it and if you dont care about your paint thats fine. If you wanted another color like silver or tan that is just as sexy as the black but easier to keep clean and looking great thats fine. Black looks awful when its not properly taken care of. Especially the non metallic black, with the awful waterbased clear coat.

I was between sahara tan and black, and when they stopped offering the tan, i got the black. I just hate bad paint. This was an answer for me. If I had gotten the tan, I might not have put the wrap on, but with black, I thought it was a MUST.

PieFace To each his own,

and for me, my jeep is black and I want it to stay black without swirl marks. The wrap does that. It is not a mod I regret even though its the most expensive mod Ive done, and no one even realizes its there.

When people say "wow that jeep is CLEAN" they dont realize its because the wrap heals the swirls and light scratches that my off road use puts the truck through.

Next time you walkt through a parkinglot, check out a black car, you'll see that the paint is not showroom. Mine is.

dimasin This is absolute NUTS! Complete waste of resources! How long one need to keep their truck to justify this nonsense? If you gonna keep your truck until wheels fell off what would you do with "brand new" wrapped body??? This is exactly why Egyptian civilization collapsed - they wrapped their dead too much!

Watch the video or call xpel for a sample and scratch it yourself. It does heal.

No it's not. Nissan/Infiniti has even had self healing paint. It will NOT heal large/deep scratches, but fine swirls yes.

Yep the self-healing film is a new product. As a matter of fact we were having a discussion on one of the forums I hang out on that belongs to a detailing supplies company and one of the product reps popped in while we were talking about how to reduce scratch damage from offroading and this film came up.

The product guy is for one of the companies that makes a paint coating that I was debating about. It's not a sealer, they're actual ceramic or acrylic coatings that are permanent (until you polish them off). He though he could come up with a self healing coating. That would rock because it would be MUCH cheaper than a film wrap, and you could do it yourself if you know what you're doing.

You seem like me (anal retentive), doing the whole vehicle just opened up a never ending swirl/scratch fest. Your going to drive yourself crazy trying to keep it looking good.
Here is a tip... inspect EVERY towel you use for drying/wazing... use light pressure when you dry and wax too...

This film was only selected for the self healing property, If it swirls or yellows, xpel replaces it. I wouldnt have done it otherwise.

tampaukfan Total waste to do the whole Jeep.. The film scratches easier than the paint will. I had the whole hood done on my M6 (black)and I ended up pulling it off after three months.
Vinyl is soft and pliable, it will scratch and it will haze over time.
Doing the fenders, grill, door sills, and edge of the hood makes sense since those areas are most likely to get damaged by rocks.
