Great information available here and I shoulda coulda did what you're doing before we bought and even though we bought used, I know now that we paid too much. We decided on a Jeep while out of town, came home on Sat. and bought on Sunday. Having said that, we do have a limited production model and really haven't seen anything to what we wanted in this area since buying. Also, one can't be bragging on a Jeep's resale and at the same time time be complaining about it not depreciating enough for when you want to buy, I guess. Would like to have it both ways, and more of what I'm used to with most of my dealings, though.

I would never consider the MSRP on a new vehicle purchase.
You should base it off the INVOICE. There are a number of ways you can do it, Tread Lightly being one, that will give you a price about 2 percent less than invoice.
I think the Invoice on your wish list is about 33,500.
Also a dealers first trade in offer will usually be low.
You should be thinking about a price of around 34k inclusive of everything except sales tax which will vary by state on both the rate and if they subtract your trade in from the taxable purchase price.
No reason to think you couldn't get 7500 for the trade and a 3-4% interest rate.

AlexRiedel Join Thread Lightly and get 1% UNDER deal invoice. No one, REPEAT no one pays MSRP.
Go to edmunds.com and configure the Jeep there. You get the dealer invoice price and a True Market Value. Again, joining Thread Lightly will get you a REALLY good price without haggling.
I got 1.9% for 60 month without even trying. I just told them that is what it has to be.

If you are in or near the S.F. Bay Area I'll gladly tell you where to go. :-)

Kelsey73 You usually get undercut by the dealer on trade.

Have you looked at a program like tread lightly? My JKUS was around 38K MSRP, and after the TL discount I was around 34K. Trade and down payment I finance 30K for 60 months @ 3%. This was in september though. Had the 0% for 36 months been out I would have taken that.

SpiderDice So here's all the options that I want on the Jeep. The salesman at the dealership told me that the MSRP was just over $40,000.

Here's what I calculated.
2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (Sahara Black)


Options
- Black Cloth Seats
- Heated Seats ($250)
- Slush Mats ($75)
- Remote Start ($200)
- Body Color 3 piece hard top ($1,715)
- 5 speed automatic ($1,125)
- Connectivity Group ($385)

Options Total: $5080

Destination Charge: $800

MSRP + Destination: $36,625

Trade In: $6000

Total Estimated Price: $30,625
I don't have any money to put down, I just have my trade in which "they said" is worth $6000. KBB says that the price of that car is closer to $8500.

When I use their "Payment Calulator", 3.34% is the "best rate" Chrysler can offer, 72 months, $6000 trade in = $472/month!

When I use a third party interest rate of 1.9%, this only brings the monthly cost to $452.

Am I missing something?

arctic318 My dealer wanted 4% for 60 months so I went to Bank of America who gave me 2.49%. Dealer without hesitation matched 2.49% for 60 months. I also sold my car to carmax and got more money then dealer was offering. Definitly shop around at different dealers and play them against each other (this dealer said this amount etc.), tell them point blank you're not paying the $600 filing fee they try to get people on, look at Tread Lightly for a discount, etc. Lots of tips all over the forum. As staed earlier, 6% with a 650 credit score is insane.

phottomatt 6% is crazy, and don't finance at the dealer....EVER. If you do pay it off very quickly. I got one through my credit union and got 2.9%, they gave me a lower rate if I used the auto deduct option to pay the loan. $35K is pretty steep, I got a New, loaded 2010 Sahara (except no leather) dual top and tow pack. for $28k no trade and nothing down, did my own financing. You can do better on the price. Edmunds has a nice car appraisal tool, I think KBB is very high on the prices but I guess that's what you want when you're trading in. Good luck

ryanJKunlimited2012 find a new salesman or dealership. If you are using a credit union that is charging 6% of 60 months, find a new credit union. Mine was 2.9 for 60 months. You have some bad math going on there

Chewtoy I think you came to the right place for friendly advice on Jeeps. You should hear some good tips from others, so I'll just point out a few items:
It doesn't matter where you get the loan, the dealer will just shop their local banks. Make them check further. 6% is a little steep, I might stress you need lower payments, they need to find you a lower rate.
While on the subject, you still need lower payments, so tell them you expected more for your trade. Research KBB.com and document your needs. KBB is not the final word, the point is you need to document why you expected more for your trade. Document it.
Finally, for the down, I would put less down if you get lower interest rates. At 6%, you might put some down to lower the payments. But don't let the dealer use that as their solution to lower monthly payments. It's your money you are putting down. Shop for the loan, demand more for your trade, or just look elsewhere. I drove 40 & 50 miles for my last 2 Jeeps, and I can see the local Jeep dealer from my house. Good luck, I hope you get it, now see what others think.

ridetime Well to start with, it all depends on your credit worthiness. Personally, I would run from anyone trying to charge me 6% interest right now but I have good credit. If your credit score is 700 (even 650 should beat that rate) or higher that is a rip off. $35,000 sounds like too much to pay for a cloth Unlimited Sahara. I'm guessing the MSRP is around $37,000? That's not a horrible price but I would ask for additional discount.

As for your trade in, you need to do some research on KBB, Edmunds, etc.

It's hard to answer your questions without more information.

I bought in December of 2011 and my interest rate was 3.49% for 60 months. Again, whether or not you will require a down payment will depend on your credit score and current debt vs. income.

the rock99 It sounds like your dealer is trying to screw you. I don't know what state you are in so I can't say what the taxes would be but $6,000 to cover tax/title/license is absurd (unless you live in a state that charges property and not sales tax on new vehicles).

You should also shop around for a better interest rate 6% (unless you have bad credit) is ridiculous.

I got a 2012 unlimited sahara for $35,000 less an $8,000 trade in plus tax and title everything was just under $28,800 so I borrowed $28,800 for 36 months at 0% but they offered me 1.9% for 48 months

Hi,

First of all, Hello to all JK UL owners!

I hope that by registering for this forum, you can provide with insight, advice and suggestions as I start to head down the path of purchasing a new Jeep.

My local dealer, has quoted me $35,000 for a Black '12 UL Sahara. No leather, but it has the NAV package. Everything else is stock.

My trade in value will be around $6000. At my credit union, I currently owe 3 more payments of $252.00/month at an interest rate of 6.0%. This is not a lease.

The dealer will give me the same interest rate of 6.0%, but my monthly payments on a 72 month loan with be close to $550. Not including gas, taxes, title, and license. They said that the trade in value of my car should cover the taxes, title and license. What have your past experiences been?

What do you think of this deal? Should I go with the credit union, or the dealer? Do I need to put money down on the $35k loan?

Thanks for your help! And please let me know if you have any questions, something isn't right or confusing!
