ya that is exactly what my radiator is like it just crumbles

chim When I replaced the engine in my 95, I used one from a 90 that had been rebuilt. The 90 used v-belts, and the 95 uses serpentine. The two water pumps are made to rotate in opposite directions due to the belt routing. Is this what you mean by "reverse"?

My radiator also needed to be replaced. Cost was around $130 (rad only, I installed it) at a Western Auto. The fins were corroded and crumbled at the slightest touch, and it had a pinhole leak as well.

Is there a chance the stat is bad/sticking/not opening fully?............chim

Edit to add: Mine is a 2.5 four banger

whiteyj I really don't believe there is such a thing as a "good used radiator". Why risk another failure. I picked up a new radiator for around $100 on ebay. Purchased on Friday and Saturday morning the Overnight Express guy was knocking on my door!

agriesemer I already changed the thermostat when I put the new water pump on but I havent changed the hoses??????maybe

The water pumps for this come in standard or reverse I only know this because it was in the book (Haynes) if you have a reverse pump it will have an R stamped on it. anybody have (good) used radiator for sale? 2.5, manual ,no air

amerijeep I'd change the hoses. They can collapse on the inside when they get hot when they get old. You can't see it happening from the outside.

whiteyj Thermostat comes to mind. Not sure what you're talking about the the "reverse water pump"?

YJ Trouble ????any help????

first off, I am a new member and am glad to see a group that can help troubleshoot stuff. I am pretty mech. inclined but would like some advice from some of you other jeepers.

I have a 94 wrangler while camping my water pump went out at the time I thought I got to it in time but after replacing the water pump with a new one (reverse wtr pump) it still got hot. After using a meat thermometer I discovered my guage wasn't accurate all. water just pours into my overflow after it gets warm. Also my radiator got alot of metal in it when the pump went out. it has rotting fins anyway so Im sure I need to replace it, but was wondering if you guy's think it might have taken a head gasket or something.
Ive looked for the obvious signs. no water in the oil, no loss of power, no smoke. just overheats there are a few bubbles that enter the resevoir when the coolent does.
I even put my hand over the radiator to see if it preassurizes instantly . no luck there either.



any advice you have would be appreciated. Just got new swampers that are itchin for some Indiana mud.
