MR.CLIFFORD Yes they are important. When you pull the soft top tight via the clamps the straps put tension on the rear of the soft top. Without the strap there is nothing holding the rear portion of the soft top in the air and your soft top will collapse. Whoever sold you that soft top frame should refund your money.

Or you can figure out another way to secure some form of strap to the soft top hardware. The original strap is riveted to the tubes. Should be easy to figure out. Or sew the thing back together.

Soft top

The straps are part of the frame assembly itself. If you were to take off the fabric they would be there. They hook to the front and rear loops at the top in both corners....basically connecting the loops together. They are about 3 inches wide and I think are riveted on.

richp I'm not clear on the straps you are talking about, the last couple of times I have replaced tops the only 'straps' I remember were the wide ones with snaps that over the cross bows and the two in the back that hold up the rolled up window.
I have a couple of complete tops on frames out in the shed that I keep as spares, will go fold one open and look closer depending on the snow thats just started. Are you sure its a factory top or is it an aftermarket one ? they are alot different and use different frames too.

Soft Top Question

I purchased a used soft top and have a question that I can't find a specific answer for. The fabric straps that connect the front and rear loops were cut on both sides (approx 3in wide black straps). I think the top should function without them but I'm not sure. It is still 30 deg. here in MI and I don't think trying to wrestle with a cold soft top to try it out sounds like much fun. Any opinions? Has anybody run into this before? Why would they be cut?

Thanks in advance for your help.
