My 2 inch front coil spacers finally shipped... Gotta get the front end back up so the trackbar stops rubbing on the diff cover. They will only be temporary until I can decide what lift to put on my rig. I'm thinking the 5.5 RE Long arm. Just not sure if 2-3k is worth it.
Also 4wp Claims they are going to ship my water pump today... I doubt it... It will be the last time I order through them.
Otherwise I did the 5th cooling flush since my new rad and upper hoses and still comes out sorta yellow / orange. The magnetic plug also comes out covered with magnetic gunk for the 5th time. I'm hoping with the new thermostat housing, stat, and water pump will cut down on the junk.

Brown Santa stopped by for a moment today. He wanted to thank me personally for not ordering any more lift kits and mostly sticking to very lightweight boxes for the time being. (He had to lug ten tires and two lift kits up my stairs this past six months. Poor guy! Heh, heh, heh...)
Then he handed me these guys.
My cat likes them already. Good cat. She likes Jeep parts.

Okay. I got after the rear shocks and all the parts or the rear suspension that have to come off for the lift kit. I got several control arm and track bar nuts broken loose. And I tried to get the upper, rear shock bolts for like the 25th time over this past year.
Today I got one of these little monsters out without damage! Of course, the other one snapped off. (Driver's side by the frame rail. Yes, up by the dang gas tank in that tiny corner...)
HOWEVER -- My wife was observing the process for me. The fender well liner was out and she had a flashlight on the outer bolt end that you can see from that little notch in the tub. I knew it would probably break off as I was starting to get some twistiness but my wife told me that the end of the bolt was not turning at all.
Then she said, "It's turning!"
And then the head snapped off.
And it came off flush with the crossmember.
But of course...
Honestly, I am not worried. It had broken free enough to see it moving. I can get in there with some oddly shaped pliers I have and work on it until I can back it out enough to try and get the vice-grips on it. If not, since is it now turing a little, I am betting that an EZ Out will get it. I do not believe I will have to completely drill it out nor will I have to break off the weld nut on the crossmember.
Of course, then a huge wind and thunderstorm started, so we quit; no work on the other side for now.
One of the passenger side bolts has popped and creaked twice in the recent past. I am sure that this means that the rust has been broken, but it is still heavy on the threads and will not turn freely. I am sure I can get it out, though, but that fourth one is stuck good. I will use my acetylene torch on it tomorrow.
The driver's side shock is, like both front ones, completely blown. It did not even expand an inch after it dropped free. I can compress or expand it easily by hand. The photo is after it had sat there for about a half hour. I went back out to take the photo after a shower and fresh clothes. It is still not expanded at all. That is about an inch less than ride height in the photo.
What a mess I am replacing. The new lift kit is going to be a massive upgrade for this TJ!

You have to drop your transfer case skid plate. The six bolts are in nutserts that can break free and spin without ever giving up the damned bolt to you. Also, you can find some scary rust between the frame rails and the skid plate. Be prepared for some upsetting truth if your TJ every lived in an area with salted roads.
However, once you get the skid plate removed (watch several videos and read several good writeup threads on this or you will drop your TC and tranny on the ground!) it is fairly straightforward and simple. Again, the nuts you need to remove could be rusted tight.
The guy above me gave you an excellent link to pore over. Do so.
The benefit is that your TC will go from the stiff, forced feeling of moving from the various settings to one that is firm but very, very smooth. It really improves the tactile sense of the TC shifter and makes the jeep feel like a nicer vehicle. The linkage you would replace is like a Rube Goldberg junkyard creation that was not a good design at all.
Once you get it installed and adjusted your life will become golden, you will become fabulously wealthy, you will become an Adonis and have all the runway models on your arm.
Ask anyone here. We all did this mod and now date hotties. True story.

Made some door hanger brackets (total cost $2.50 for washers and lags)
I got some 1" angle iron (for free) and welded them into a box, cut everything up, my brother-in-law had some old wrist pins laying around so we welded them together, cut them in in half and welded a washer to the top for the hinge pins.

Impact gun works wonders for those bolts. Just tap the trigger forward and back and they pop loose.
$50 at harbor freight. Best cheap tool I ever bought.

My build is on hold until I get my new Alloy USA axles. I am starting to get the heebie-jeebies doing nothing while the TJ is ripped apart. I think tomorrow I will finally snap off those damned upper, rear shock bolts. I have been working on them for over a year now and they will NOT come loose. So I have to man up and get them out. It will not be pretty. Say a little prayer for my TJ. As for me, I will probably have thrown two wrenches and a cat across the yard by noon, tomorrow. But I have no idea how bad this is going to get.
How about this?
Dremel the bar pins and simply get the damned shocks OUT. Then use my acetylene torch for one last, desperate attempt to crack that rust.
I managed to get two of them to creak and snap over about 5║ or 10║ once last Summer, so it is possible...
However, I just might precede all this nonsense by using a breaker bar to try and gently yet firmly tighten those two back a tiny bit to get them moving. Then back and forth, over and over until they start to break free. Maybe then the heat?
I think I can get those two.
But the others?
Screw them. They die tomorrow. ;-)

Fabbed up some 1.75" seat risers
Took some scrap stock that would have otherwise been tossed and put it to good use. Made two sets, one for myself, and another for a buddy. Free mods are the best mods. Also took care of some floor pan rust on said buddy's rig.
