Good luck if you have to have ANY warranty work done. My left head was replaced a couple of weeks ago. Working on some mods this weekend and realized the dealer attached one clip and one bolt on the entire intake. They didn't bother tightening the clamp to the throttle body either. The entire intake was barely holding on. Oh, and they couldn't find my passenger side noise.....which I thought was exhaust related. Apparently the missing bolt on the top of the exhaust manifold was tricky to notice.

|Rubicon_Jim||Got my warranty extension letter a couple days ago. 10 year 150k miles. Had my head replaced at 23,000 miles on my '12JKUR. I'm at 38,000 miles now.|

Could you (or someone) scan their letter and post it here please ?

|colder||I got my warranty extension letter last week. I have a 2012 that is approaching 25k. No codes or any issues whatever so far.|

It is scary to see a few 13's with the problem and now possibly a 2014. Early built 2013's could still have AB heads. There's no excuse for 2014's having a problem though.

|hypoxic1911||can someone post a video/audio of this ticking sound that indicates a bad head? Like a few others, I hear some ticking/rattling for the first minute after starting, but then the noise subsides a bit...|

Another thing he said is the "RL" on the new part # RL141353AC for the new head means "RE-LABELED".
I found that odd.
So what did Chrysler actually do to the new heads to remedey that problem ?
I asked the Service Mgr about the extended warranty on the head and he was clueless. He did state I should have received a letter about the head (which I did not). He also said my JK's engine still has the 7yr/100,000 mile warranty on it.
Can someone scan their letter about this extended warranty ?
Well, add another 2013 JK to the list.
I just had the left head replaced at the Dealer yesterday on my 2013 JK Sport.
It did pop up a CEL with the P302 Code. My JK only has 8,800 miles on it.
The Service Mgr stated the engine Failed a Leakdown test and that #2 cylinder had a burnt exhaust valve.
The engine runs much smoother now and has a noticeable power increase! I did notice the engine stumbling a bit on acceleration before and the idle was a bit rough at times. The exhaust did smell rich as well. It wasn't really bad enough that it deemed getting it checked out though. Guess I was wrong! lol!
I have yet to see the reason that this issue primarily effects the LEFT head and in particular cyclinder #2. Has anyone found the reason for this ?
BTW, a rental/courtesy car IS covered under the factory warranty for this issue AND the dealers DOES get reimbured from Chrysler for it. Don't let the Service Mgr bullshit you on this! Otherwise, the will lie and said the did give you a rental can AND pocket the money from Chrysler! Don't think they won't!

My '12 used to chatter loudly on cold start until I changed the oil. Since then, it has been fairly quiet, but still there if you listen close.
On a side note, I also got my warranty extension letter last week. I'm at 30k miles and have no symptoms. Same mpgs, no new noises, no loss of power.
|07-28-2014 06:11 PM|
Make a note of the pitch/amount of clatter with both oils and let us know.
|07-28-2014 01:14 PM|
So I may drive it for 150k miles like that, and never have an issue?
Is there a different oil that I should use to minimize that? I don't know what is in it now, my wife's daily driver, maintained by the dealership.

|gecko4||You'll have to wait for codes. Believe it or not, the morning rattle is normal for the 3.6|

|MichiganUnlimited||I've got a 2014 JKU, 3.6 and I am hearing a rattle on start ups. We have 15k miles on it. It's not throwing any codes, and otherwise runs well. But man, I hate starting it and hearing about 8-10 clatters for that first second of run time. It does it with every cold start (even if it's 80 degrees outside). If I bring it in will they replace the head, or will I have to wait for codes and/or catastrophic failure?|

I recently got the letter saying the warranty was extended to 10yr/150K for the LH head,

|TurboRabbit||Just got my left cylinder he'd replaced on my 2012 jku. Glad to have it back but disappointed how dirty the tech left my jeep. Antifreeze everywhere and oil down the left side. I cleaned it up so I can check for leaks. Hope this one holds up for me. Don't really notice any huge power gains like others have noted. Also following up on minor issue with the dealer tomorrow. One of the bolt from the air cleaner was just sitting on the hoses... Luck it was still there. Also air box was not secured to the throttle body... Air box just fell off when I was checking filter.|

|07-26-2014 08:18 AM|
As far as I understand it, if you have an AA or AB head and the defect rears its head, you will be covered by the warranty extension so long as it happens within 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Anyone who knows different, please advise us.

Got The Warranty Extension Letter
Question is, what is the warranty period for folks who had the driver's side head replaced with the AC head?
|07-25-2014 07:27 PM|
I got it a couple of weeks ago. I was kinda puzzled I got it, so I sent chrysler an email. They really didn't acknowledge the fact that I got the letter, even though I spelled it out. Here is their response:
Thank you for contacting Chrysler Canada Customer Care. We certainly
apologize for the delay with our email response pertaining to your 2013
Jeep Wrangler VIN: 1C4BJWEG1DL5007xx
Please note that Recall Campaign N28 (transmission oil cooler tube) is
outstanding on your vehicle. Please contact your dealer to arrange
completion of this service, at no charge to you.
Recalls and warranty extensions do not generally apply to all Chrysler
vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is not included in the
extended warranty mentioned in your email.
The cylinder heads fall under the 5 years or 100,000km (whichever occurs
first) powertrain warranty.
Thank you for taking the time to write.
Who knows if it's actually covered. I've got the letter, so if it does fail past the warranty, I'll be speaking to the area rep if the warranty is denied. In all probability, I'll likely be trading for my next vehicle by time I hit 100000km anyway.
