Xjman1 Just saw an email from a local club that someone passed away at the event and they are doing a fund raiser in Simi to support his family.

I do not know about the accident, however we all have a chance here to help out a fellow wheelers family through a tough time.

GenRight Offroad hosts a monthly Jeep night at Cronies in Simi Valley. They have graciously offered to make the March 16th gathering a tribute and fundraiser for the family of a friend, and fellow wheeler Jim Kuns, Jr., who lost his life this past weekend on a 4 wheeling trip at the TDS Safari.
The great people at Cronies have offered do help in anyway they can to make this a big night.
There will also be a donation box available for anyone who would like to make a donation. Again this event is also a 4wheel drive night. 4 wheeling was a big part of Jim's life, so if you have a rig and are able to bring it, please do. We would love to see Cronies the busiest they've ever been and the parking lot filled with wheelers and their rigs.

This will be held at Cronies Sports Bar in Simi Valley, Ca on March 16th starting at 6pm.

Xjman1 What a great time! TDS 4x4 Club pulled off another successful event, good job guys and gals. The trail was quite crowded and we pulled out early from the run but what does one expect with I believe they said 1700+ registrants!! WOW!!
The fireworks show was one of the best I have ever seen. The obstacle course is gnarly, the trail route is fun as always. Looking forward to next year!

JPi1 The fireworks show was like 4th of July, we could see and hear it from hwy 78. The vendor area was much bigger than previous years. I stay at the Blu-inn RV park off the 78, very nice and clean rv park, full hook ups, nice pool and spa, (which felt nice after Wheelin all day) a small store, gas station and cafe on site. We take cahuilla trail to crossover trail to the event, takes about an hour with a few picture stops. We should get a wrangler forum group for next year. Good times!

JPi1 We drove out to split top mountain canyon last night before dinner, spectacular place! For those of you that have never been to this TDS event, it's a must do next year!

With the upcoming WF M&G, I'll probably skip TDS (it's REAL crowded anyway) and finish some work at the house so I can make the M&G with a clear conscience.
I hear ya on that, I just paid $4.39! Its insane!

Xjman1 Your in Escondido, I have a drive from Ventura County. I have been limiting my travels for this trip as it is a do not miss event for me. Yeah it is crowded but that is half the fun watching all the variations of rigs and drivers.

TheDesertOutlaw The problem is, most people who do, "Just show Up" don't bother to make donations, and their fun is at the expense of Tierra Del Sol 4WD Club. I sat in many Cal4Wheel meetings with their delegate and they expressed dismay at the number of attendees vs. those who "paid".
02-12-2012 09:52 AM
Fred1 Desert Outlaw, The fee you pay is not an entrance fee. You pay to go on the runs. Showing up is fine. If you don't do a run you can make a donation to TDS, that is what I do when I arrive. If you are going on one of the runs make sure you have a first aid kit and fire extinguisher. They inspect your vehicle and issue a sticker if you pass. It is huge event and a lot of fun. I could spend the whole day just watching the people at the training area. See you there.
02-12-2012 12:01 AM
TheDesertOutlaw If I go, I will register and attend the run. BTW, Its better to not just "show Up" and not pay since TDS and Cal4Wheel provide legal defense to fight land closures and land grabs. "Showing Up" and not paying entrance fees don't help towards this larger purpose.

Xjman1 March 2-4th. One of the largest events around and an awesome place to wheel. More info and registration can be found on their site, tds4x4. Tierra Del Sol - Four Wheel Drive Club of San Diego

I went last year for the first time to the event and it is a calendar event for me now. As for location it is just outside of Salton City.
